This week, February 10-19, they'll partake in one of the most highly respected contests in freestyle snowboarding, which takes place just once every four years. Surrounded by fellow riders, friends, and peers, these talented athletes will compete for the acclaimed title of world champion. Male and female winners will be named in the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions. And the last weekend will feature a massive quarterpipe event in the legendary Holmenkollen ski jumping arena."By and for snowboarders" is the common theme surrounding the event, since it was founded by Ticket to Ride (TTR) and the World Snowboard Federation. This aspect garners admiration for the event among the snowboard community, given that many contests aren't carried out the way that the majority of riders would prefer. "The title of it isn't as important as, I think, the fact of something big happening," says Russian-born rider Iouri Podladtchikov, one of the top halfpipe riders on the scene today. Half a million dollars in prize money might also be a tad important. But more than anything, the athletes are pumped to be riding a world-class setup against the best snowboarders in the world. Louie Vito also shared his thoughts on the event, "I'm stoked that someone really stepped up to make a more official World Championship. I mean, you have different titles you can win throughout the year and there are other world champs, but it's really rare to find everyone at one place." With the support of top riders and snowboard federations, the WSC serves as a great display of what snowboarding is and will be in the future. Qualifying rounds start tomorrow, Tuesday, Febuary 14. Stay tuned to GrindTV for results and recaps. Road trips, smelly vehicles, and a severe lack of hygiene. Rome Snowboards affirmed this with a short edit of their Am Army traveling by van to various mountains, cities, and street spots last winter to shoot urban riding. What can one gather from watching this video? For one, Rome's amateur team can get down on a snowboard and stomp super technical tricks with style. They also have a knack for cramming a large group of young guys in vans and hotel rooms. This team is certainly a force to be reckoned with in the seasons to come. Channels: Snow Moody Monday video montageGood morning. Yes, we know it's Monday. And yes, we know it's terrible. Once again, Grind has arrived with an uplifting collection of snowboarding edits to help you forget that it's the start of another work week. Enter the "Moody Monday video montage". Sure, you'd rather actually be snowboarding. So would we. However, to fund that habit we have to put time into these weird things called "careers." Enjoy the latest group of shred videos that we've compiled to help you through yet another miserable Monday. Roxy Refreshments 2011/12: Roxy's Next Top RiderTyra Banks scares a lot of people. The ridiculous antics of "America's Next Top Model" definitely don't help nor does the fact that it seems like that show will never go off the air. The Roxy ladies were apparently inspired by the outrageous behavior on the show and decided to take it a different direction - snowboarding. Torah Bright, Kjersti Buaas, and Aimee Fuller's snowboarding skills are put to the test with some shred-specific challenges to see who will claim the title of "Roxy's Next Top Rider". Backflips, bear wrestling, and "beauty Go Pro" shots were all included. Yeah, we're not sure how we feel about this either. Check out the competition for yourself. Channels: Snow 2012 Cholula Triple Air at Mountain HighWrightwood, CA - February 7, 2012: The $20,000 Cholula Triple Air Show returned to Mountain High on Saturday, February 4, 2012, offering Southern California's largest prize p urse. Now in its fourteenth year, the event continues to gain strength with many raving this year's course was the best it's ever been.A perfect day on the mountain with sunny skies and warm temperatures provided riders with an amazing opportunity to let it all hang out. In the men's snowboard division, riders such as Yale Cousino, Scotty Vine, Trevor Jacob, Ian Thorley and Garrettt Warnick came out to compete but in the end, it was local hero and Mountain High team rider, Spencer Link who stole the show and the $5000 top prize with his ridiculously solid run that included a Cab 9, Front 7 and a nasty Back 10 Double. The women's snowboard division was stacked with riders like Lynn Neil, Mariah Dugan, Nirvana Ortanez, Jamie Madrid and Melissa Evans competing. On this day, it was Katie Williams out of Salt Lake City, Utah who stole the show and the $2000 top prize with her smooth run that included a clean front 5 on the money booter. In the ski division, some heavy hitters came out to compete including Patrick Goodhough, Max Peters, Noah Morrison and Time Gage. For the skiers it was all about the double corks with McRae Williams landing the smoothest run, dirtiest double and snagging the $3500 top prize. This year, The Cholula Triple Air Show was upgraded to a 3 star TTR (Ticket To Ride) event which means competitors earned points toward their overall worldwide ranking. The TTR standard is what competitive snowboarders use to rank themselves against each other, and earn entry into events like the Grand Prix and the Olympics. Special thanks goes out to the event's sponsors, Cholula Hot Sauce, Jarritos, Continuous, and more. And to Chuck Allen, the Godfather of snowboarding and co-founder of the USASA, without whom this event would not exist.
