BUCHANAN, Mich. (July 7, 2012) - Thousands of avid motocross fans braved the heat on Saturday to cheer on the world's best motocross riders as legendary RedBud USA hosted the sixth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. As the season reached its halfway point, Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., kept his dominant run going in the 450 Class, wining his fourth straight race with another 1-1 moto sweep. In the 250 Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Blake Baggett, of Grand Terrace, Calif., raced to his third victory of the season and second in-a-row with an impressive 1-1 effort.

    Ryan Dungey at RedBud

In the opening 450 Class moto, it was Dungey who prevailed out of the gate, establishing himself as the rider to beat early while Team Yoshimura Suzuki's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., followed in second in his return to action.

    James Stewart at RedBud

As Dungey pushed to open a gap on Stewart, the Suzuki rider went down, allowing Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jake Weimer, of Rupert, Idaho, and Team Honda Muscle Milk's Justin Brayton, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to move past. On the following lap, Stewart encountered misfortune again, stalling his bike and falling to seventh. He eventually worked his way to a sixth-place result.

Out front, Dungey took the checkered flag by over 45 seconds ahead of the field

In Moto 2, MotoConcepts Suzuki's Mike Alessi, of Victorville, Calif., grabbed the holeshot and led early, but it didn't take long for Dungey to take over the top spot and pull away. Alessi, who was involved in a first-turn crash in the first moto, settled into second for the remainder of the moto, while Stewart bounced back to run third.

Dungey's near 35-second win extended his moto winning streak to eight.

"Having James (Stewart) back this week was good to add another challenge, and it's good for the sport," said Dungey. "We made some more changes to the bike coming into (today) and I think we've made even more progress. My starts were good and I knew getting out front would make life easier, having a whole track to work with. It's (too) early to think points, but you've got to be smart. With James back, you knew he'd be there, so I didn't want to downplay him. I just wanted to get a good start and see how things played out."

Brayton brought home his first overall podium result of the season in second (3-4), while Stewart finished third (3-6) despite his troubles.

Dungey extended his lead in the 450 Class standings to 72 points over Alessi.

In the 250 Class, Baggett needed a pair of come-from-behind performances to take the win. After crossing the line in sixth at the conclusion of the first lap in Moto 1, Baggett began a charge to the front of the field. He quickly picked off riders to move into second by Lap 5 and overcame a five-second deficit to pass GEICO Honda's Justin Barcia, of Monroe, N.Y., for the lead on Lap 12 and pull away.

    Justin Barcia at RedBud

In Moto 2, Baggett put himself in a better position, coming out of the gate in third and working his way to the front of the field by the conclusion of the opening lap. On Lap 2, a mistake forced Baggett to fall, allowing Barcia to take over the lead.

    Blake Baggett at RedBud

After losing just one spot, Baggett once again set his sights on the lead and managed to take over the position again on Lap 8, holding it through to the finish.

"This track is one of the best on the schedule, its got a little bit of everything," said Baggett. "There's no formula to the way I ride. It just happens. I had a pitiful start in the first moto and fought my way through the pack. I got a good start in the second moto and just tipped it over. I looked at lines to see where I could pick up ground and I just took a shot (at the lead) when I had a chance."

Barcia's pair of second-place finishes landed him second overall, while his teammate Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., finished third (5-3).

Baggett extended his lead in the championship to 19 points over Barcia.

The Women's Motocross Championship hosted its fifth round of eight for the 2012 season. Defending champion, Team Honda Muscle Milk's Ashley Fiolek, of St. Augustine, Fla., dominated both motos to claim her second win of the summer. Fiolek missed the WMX Class' previous round at High Point in June with an injury, but gained valuable points in the championship. Munn Racing KTM's Sara Pettersson, of Sweden, finished second (3-4), while Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil Honda's Tarah Gieger, of Puerto Rico, finished third (2-6). Current championship points leader, Jessica Patterson, of Tallahassee, Fla., finished 14th aboard her Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki after breaking her hand last week, retaining control of the division points lead.

The 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship continues next Saturday, July 14, with round seven from Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minn., and the Spring Creek National.

  • Taddy Blazusiak Back on Top at Sacramento EnduroCross

Taylor Robert and Kevin Rookstool rounded out the podium at Sacramento EnduroCross

Irvine, CA (June 9, 2012) - Round two of the 2012 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil made a first ever stop to Northern California with KTM's Taddy Blazusiak finding his way back to the top of the podium. He was joined by Monster Kawasaki's Taylor Robert and GEICO Honda's Kevin Rookstool. Husqvarna's Cory Graffunder made a last second pass on Mike Brown to take forth while Brown held onto fifth.

EnduroCross Sacramento 2012 Kevin Rookstool DrewRuizPhotoBlazusiak had to work hard for the win as Rookstook beat him to the first turn and then led for several laps until he crashed while leading. By that point, Blazusiak had worked his way up to second after spending a few laps behind Destry Abbott. Then the battle for second was intense as Beta's Cody Webb made his way to the front of the battle that included Rookstool, Abbott and Mike Brown. Robert had started the race in last after a first turn altercation but eventually took several riders to take second. Rookstool had intense pressure from Brown for the final podium spot when they both went down in separate incidents in the water hole. Rookstool got up first to get the spot and then Graffunder passed Brown right at the finish. Bobby Garrison finished sixth, Webb seventh after his crash, Gary Sutherlin eighth and Abbott ninth. Colton Haaker, the series point's leader coming into Sacramento had a tough night after an early crash and then a stall put him a lap down and in tenth position. Geoff Aaron had a worse night after taking a long time to restart his machine and he finished eleventh in the main.

The day got started with the MVP Racing's Hot Laps and KTM's Taddy Blazusiak shocked everybody by jumping all the way over the five logs that made up the "Matrix" just in front of the finish line to set the fastest lap time. Haaker, the Las Vegas winner had the second fastest time just ahead of Beta's Cody Webb. Abbott and Sutherlin rounded out the top five. The hot lap times earn you bragging rights and determines the gate picks for the heat races.

Blazusiak took over the points lead ahead of Haaker, Robert, Rookstool and Graffunder.

The evening also included the support classes. The Open Amateur class, which was won by Bryan Roper ahead of Tucker Larrieu and Tyler Murray. Canada's Stephen Foord won the Vet class over Tod Sciacqua and Eric Ducray. Dirt Rider magazine Associate Editor Chris Green, won the TrialsCross class ahead of Dustin McCarthy Ty Tremaine.

The Women's class had twelve riders and Louise Forsley won an exciting race over Chantelle Bykerk who took the lead on the last lap but then got stuck in the Matrix just in front of the finish line. Maria Forsberg had the lead for a short time before a crash took her out but she rebounded to fight back to third.

  • Villopoto Takes Third Victory of Season After a Wild-Night of Racing Action

Dean Wilson Ends Eli Tomac's Three-Race Win Streak and Takes Control of Supercross Lites Class Points Lead Following His Second Victory

SAN DIEGO, Calif.(February 11, 2012) - A huge crowd of 58,782 fans welcomed the sixth race of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season at Qualcomm Stadium. Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., won his third race of the season tonight to extend his points lead to six. In the Western Regional Supercross Lites Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Dean Wilson, of Menifee. Calif., won his second race and now controls the points lead as the Western division takes a two-month break.

Yoshimura Suzuki's Brett Metcalfe grabbed his first Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot of the season to start the Supercross Class Main Event with Villopoto and his Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer in tow. Villopoto took the lead on the second lap while a battle ensued between TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray/Honda's Chad Reed, JGRMX's James Stewart and Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey behind him. On Lap 3, Reed charged through the pack and made a pass on Weimer to assume second place. Shortly after, Weimer lost his position to Metcalfe.

Midway through the race, Stewart passed Metcalfe for third, but went down a few laps later in the whoops and handed over the spot to Dungey. Back in front, Reed and Villopoto were bar to bar, and on lap 18, Reed stole the lead, but was unable to hold it as the duo came up to the white flag. Reed went on to secure second place with Dungey rounding out the podium in third.

"The whoops were treacherous tonight," said Villopoto. "I knew it was important to be consistent every lap. Battling Reed on the last few laps was exciting and I was able to make a good pass. I'm happy to keep the red plate on my bike and am excited for the Dallas race next week."

Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda's Vince Friese opened the Western Regional Supercross Lites Class main Event with the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot with Wilson trailing closely through the first turn. Wilson quickly passed Friese and held the lead for the remaining 20 laps. GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., who controlled the points lead heading into the night, started mid-pack and charged his way to third place, however on lap seven, he crashed in the whoops to surrender his podium spot and points lead. With Tomac crashing out, JDR KTM's Matt Moss moved into third place to secure his squad's first podium of the season behind Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda's Cole Seely.

"I'm absolutely ecstatic with the win," said Wilson. "I knew I needed to run consistent laps out there and get through the whoops as fast as I could all night long. Eli [Tomac] is a tough competitor, so it's a bit of a surprise to be in the points lead, but I'm going to work my butt off during the break to try and stay there."

GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac, of Cortez, Colo., won his third consecutive Western Regional Supercross Lites Class race and extended his points lead to 22.

Villopoto picked up his second Nuclear Cowboyz® Holeshot of the season to start the Supercross Class Main Event with TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray/Honda's Chad Reed in tow. Reed passed Villopoto on the opening lap but was passed back the following lap. Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., moved into third place on Lap 1. On Lap 8, Stewart passed Reed for second place. Stewart finished second and Reed finished third.

"James (Stewart) and Chad (Reed) were riding good tonight," said Villopoto. "I knew I had to stay on my toes and not make a mistake. We need to take it one race at a time. I had a great start and to be perfect on the start difficult."

Tomac opened the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites Class main Event with the Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot with Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda's Cole Seely, who won the season opening race in Anaheim earlier this year, on his rear wheel through the first turn. Seely quickly passed Tomac for the lead. On Lap 3, Seely, of Murrieta, Calif., slid out and fell back to second place as Tomac assumed the lead. Seely finished second and Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin finished third.

"Tonight's track was difficult," said Tomac. "It's too bad Cole (Seely) slid out because he was going really fast, and I knew that I would have to work hard to get around him. I look forward to going to San Diego next weekend."
