April 24 the Sigma Chi fraternity will host a national snowboarding competition and live bands to raise money for the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Tony Alva and Todd Richards host. The sun may be shining today, but on Friday April 24th, LA will become a winter wonderland as the Sigma Chi fraternity and Nickel Productions hosts their annual philanthropy, Derby Days, a charity spectacle that combines high flying snowboarding with Coachella-style bands. Derby Days is a week-long effort in which Sigma Chi hosts events in order to raise money to support the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The 2009 Derby Days events will include the famous, Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour, in which snowboarders and skiers from across the nation will compete for cash, prizes, and glory on a 100 foot long ramp covered with 25 tons of snow. 2009 marks the second year of the national snow sport competition. The Cricket Wireless Campus Rail Jam Tour is the first tour to take snowboarding and skiing off the slopes and into the hearts of college campuses. From Boulder to Boise and Salt Lake City to San Diego, the 12-event Tour will visit eight states throughout 2009. After the shredding, Sigma Chi will open their doors to a mass of college students for a concert with LMFAO, Ghostland Observatory, and The Jakes. Both Red Bull USA and Los Angeles' own 97.1 AMP are presenting sponsors for the final concert-exhibition. Tony Alva, skateboard legend and CHLA supporter, along with Todd Richards, snowboard legend and X games announcer, are the presenting hosts for Derby Days 2009. Expecting to attract over 2,000 students, Derby Days hopes to surpass the 2008 donation mark of over $50,000.
