During the week-long event we saw tricks from some of the world's best freeskiers with only a few casualties - Chris Laker sustaining a shoulder injury after a triple cork attempt on day two, and Elias Ambuhl still lost over the Tasman Sea.

The athletes have all selected their final 'One Hit' tricks including:

-double cork 1440 tail grab by Gus Kenworthy-
-switch double cork 1080 safety to truck driver by Jossi Wells-
-double cork 1080 with a tweaked mute grab by Chris Laker (before his injury)-

  • Swatch Skiers Cup Begins

Newschoolers' Jeff Schmuck has made the trek to Valle Nevado, Chile for the first annual Swatch Skier's Cup. The event places ski teams head to head in a backcountry setting that is geared toward pushing the limits of big mountain skiing.

Read on for all the information from day one.

Under a blazing South American sun at 3900 meters, the inaugural Swatch Skiers Cup began in Chile yesterday, as 16 of the world's best freeskiers battled it out in the expansive helicopter-accessed wilderness adjacent to Valle Nevado.

When the powder settled, Team Europe had overwhelmed Team Americas six wins to two in a series of eight man-to-man ski-off's on the big mountain course.

The 28-year-old Chilean Chopo Diaz brought down the house early in the competition, besting France's Seb Michaud with an enormous air towards the top of the venue. This put Team Americas on the scoreboard, followed by Oakley White-Allen, who gained his team another point during his duel with Australian Chris Booth.

Their glory was short lived, however, as Team Europe would dominate each of the remaining six heats, including standout performances by big mountain powerhouse Henrik Windstedt, whose solid skill shone throughout the 400-meter descent, dropping several cliffs and ousting Canada's James Heim.

Head over to Newschoolers for the rest of the recap from day one of the Swatch Skiers Cup.

  • CFSA announces Canadian Slopestyle Ski Team

The 2014 Olympics will be here before you know it. Canada realized this and recently picked the members for their first-ever Canadian Slopestyle Ski Team. Read on to see who made the cut.

GrindTV Newswire: VANCOUVER, B.C. -- The Canadian Freestyle Ski Association proudly announced today the formation of its newest team. The Canadian National Slopestyle Team is the product of the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to give ski slopestyle a berth in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, and the confidence of Canada's Own the Podium program which has allocated major funding to the CFSA to kick-start the program.

When the IOC gave the nod to slopestyle, it was capitalizing on a trend to include accessible and exciting action sports into the Games. In ski slopestyle, athletes make their way down a veritable obstacle course of rails, jumps and other features - much like you would find in virtually any snow terrain park at resorts across the country. The competitors are judged on the quality, style, and originality of their tricks.

Canadian athletes have consistently performed very well in slopestyle pro events like the X Games and the Dew Tour. The discipline made its FIS World Championships debut this winter in Park City, UT where Canadian Kaya Turski took home the silver medal.

CFSA High Performance Program Director David Mirota said the OTP funding indicates confidence that Canada has excellent potential to win medals in slopestyle at the Sochi Games. "We could not have built a national team program without OTP, so we are very grateful for their support and we have worked quickly to develop a comprehensive plan based on the winning models we already have for moguls and aerials to meet OTP performance expectations," said Mirota, noting that the IOC decision came very quickly and was a bit of a surprise. Nevertheless, while FIS and the Sochi Organizing Committee work out the logistics and details of course design and judging models, Canada has wasted no time putting its program together.

  • Stept Productions presents Weight teaser

Are you ready for the best urban ski film to date? Stept Productions thinks you are.

Words by Nick Martini & Cam Riley

We are excited to release the trailer for our new movie, Weight. We want to thank all the riders who dedicated so much time to helping make this film happen. A special thanks goes out to Clayton Vila, Sean Jordan, Shea Flynn, Nick Martini, Cam Riley and Alex Martini.

Last year when we created NetWork, the response was amazing. The support we got from last year's project drove us to put our heart and soul into our new film. Starting as a small company that was born from Newschoolers, it's awesome to finally be making the movies we have always wanted to. Our presenting sponsors, The North Face and K2 Skis, helped make this dream a reality.

Weight brings the viewer into a world far away from the mountains. The Stept crew heads into the heart of American cities, and shows people a sport they never imagined. Onlookers are in awe as the crew tackles some of their biggest features to date. When the cities dry out, the crew retreats to mountains to ski deep powder, and hit the world's finest jumps.

We decided to do an early release this year, and the movie is already shipping! You can find out more about the movie and Stept at www.steptproductions.com.

Head to Newschoolers for more info from the crew.

  • Modest South presents: Folklor II

Modest South is proud to present Michael Ten Calka's second full-length film, Folklor II...the sequel to Folklor The Movie.

Like its predecessor, Folklor II is produced by Michael Calka, Piotr Wojarski and Bartek Sibiga, and will once again be accompanied by Polish rap music made specifically for the film by some of Poland's most talented hip-hop artists.

Folklor II will feature some of the best Polish riders, including Szczepan Karpiel, Robert Szul, Piotr Pinkas and Marcin Pospiech, along with friends from Czech, Slovakia and other countries.

Due to a poor winter and the lack of pow in Europe, the film will consist of mostly park and urban shoots, along with various lifestyle footage that Modest South captured while traveling throughout the alpine countries of Europe.
Folklor II will be premiered in cinemas throughout Poland in October, and will be released online for free in December.

Pretty spectacular if you ask us.
