Queen of Wake Series Kicks Off its Second Season

Orlando, Fla. The Queen of Wake, the premier pro women's wakeboarding series, has officially kicked its second season of high-flying, rail-sliding, water-sports action. Sponsored by Mona Vie, the official nutritional beverage of the series, and Ride the Wake, the official movie, the 2009 Queen of Wake season is a five-stop series points race to see who rules the water.

The top female rippers on the planet will compete during the course of the year to be named the Queen of Wake, an award based on points accumulated at each of the five stops of the series. Events included in the 2009 series are: the Wake Games, the WWA Wakeboard National Championships, the WWA Wakeboard World Championships, the Fort Worth, Tex. Pro Tour stop and the Sparks/Reno, Nev. Pro Tour stop.

In 2009, expect to see big-air tricks with huge grabs, perfect transfers and styli maneuvers out on the rails, as the top female riders battle it out behind the boat for a cash prize and the coveted Queen of Wake crown.

Top contenders for the 2009 crown are four-time X Games gold medalist Dallas Friday, Australian Pro Tour champs Amber Wing and Hayley Smith, 2008 Rookie of the Year Raimi Merritt and the defending Queen of Wake Nicola Butler.

Mona Vie is the official nutritional drink provider and presenting sponsor of the Queen of Wake series. Ride the Wake, which is now available for rent or purchase, is the official movie of the Queen of Wake and a supporting sponsor.

Well, the ultimate waker weekend is now behind us. Most in Orlando have recovered from nonstop wake of last week. If you weren't able to make it out to Wake Games any of the days, I'm sorry. But to try to make up for your lack of presence, I have posted the finals runs in the video section. After everything was finished the final results were:

Rockstar Rail Jam Rider Information Toe Jam Stop #2
Orlando, Fla. Stop number two on the Toe Jam wakeskate series is set for May 8-9 at the Projects in Orlando, Florida. The world's best riders will be battling it out behind a PWC in the sports most progressive rail course.
Toe Jam director Scott Byerly is looking forward to another throw down at the historic Projects site. "This is where it all started." Byerly said. "There's no better place to have a rail contest. And this site, with all its history, really makes the riders want to ride good and show the world that they're pushing it."

Just like every rail event, Byerly stated that the course is a "rail park" which means riders will be judged rail-heavy, but that surface and lip tricks will be counted as well. Will we see another flawless run by last year's champion Nick Taylor? Perhaps another Ben Horan flicked kickflip off a flat rail? Does Reed Hansen still have his 360 flips on lock? All these questions and more will be answered soon enough.
Semi-finalists will be challenging for six open spots into the 12-man finals. Six other spots are already reserved for past Toe Jam Champions. Past Champions (already qualified): Brian Grubb, Brandon Thomas, Aaron Reed, Clint Tompkins, Reed Hansen, and Ben Horan.

Saturday, May 9: Qualifying: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Semis / Finals 2 - 6 p.m.

Well, we've made it through three days of shredding over at the Air Nautique Wake Games Presented by Rockstar. It has been a wild ride with the insane amount of pro/amateur/wakeskate/wakeboard/girl/boy riders. I mean seriously, who knew we could categorize riders this well. Anyways, the biggest surprise of the weekend is from Jimmy LaRiche and Harley Clifford. It is insane that these boys should be riding Junior Pro Men according to their age but have decided to step it up a notch and ride in Pro Men. Not only are they riding in the Pro Division though, they are dominating their heats. Now, all we have to do is wait for today. It is the final heats of the Pro Men division, can one of them pull off a 'W' in their first Pro King of Wake event? I'll let ya know later.
