  • New Skateboard Artivism project in Tunisia

In the aftermath of the Jasmine Revolution last year, a crew of skateboarders in Tunisia - known collectively as theBedouins - took respite from the violence in the streets to turn the looted house of the currently incarcerated politician Imed Trabelsi, nephew of former first lady Leila Ben Ali, into a makeshift skatepark and street art exhibition.

Trabelsi, the former head of construction for the overthrown Constitutional Democratic Rally regime, was chased out of his mansion by protesters who were incensed at his corrupt dealings within Tunisia's political order. After he had attempted to jump the borders, and the marauders had raided the goods inside his house, theBedouins, headed by Nathan Gray, converted the once pristine mansion into a den of well-crafted graffiti and reinvented architecture - even draining the pool and creating concrete transitions to use it as a skate bowl.

Their goal now is to share the project with as many people as possible by putting the final touches on a film and transporting the collection of revolutionary art to select cities throughout 2012. You can pre-order a copy of the film via Kickstarter - a crowd source funding platform. More info at www.pushtunisia.org
