• Fifth Annual International Surfing Day

Timed to coincide with the Northern Hemisphere's Summer Solstice on June 20, 2009 (which just so happens to be the longest day of the year...clever, ya?) comes the fifth installment of Surfing Magazine's "International Surfing Day." According to the ISD website, International Surfing Day was created by Surfing's editors as an "unofficial, official surfers' holiday [to] give us a chance to promote and celebrate the sport while bringing awareness to the state of our oceans and beaches." Think of it as an editorial/branding exercise with an eco-twist, perfect for the new millenium's Green movement. The event is co-partnered with Surfrider Foundation who urges you to "go out and get a wave or three and--while you're at it--help clean up your favorite beach." Which isn't really such a bad ideal considering the state of most of our beaches in America. And, hey, if it sells a few extra magazines, no harm done, right? If you visit their website there's plenty of ways to grab swag from their corporate sponsors who've created tasks for you to complete and win free goodies.
