Human beings, according to most medical data, house a superior brain to any living thing on this Earth, yet, everyday, we see this battle of man and animal played out, as if the animal had a hell of a chance to succeed...What I do not understand is what kind of pleasure do you get from killing this wonderful and majestic animal, even if it were a contest, what personal pleasure do you derive from ending its life...???...it belongs in the Ocean and yet, your so called, "superior" brain, told you to kill it, take it out of its environment & stand next to it for a photographic record of the violent event....Please, try and understand what we are trying to convey to you people, who take pleasure in ending a life of this and other living things, here on Earth...Let them live, as they are God's Creatures and He put them here for other reasons and not so that you could spend a day, wallowing in its blood & salt water, for yes, a photographic record of this barbaric event...Let the animals and other creatures live, if possible, for I see no benefit to mankind, or to the field of medicine or any other necessary event that would allow mankind to benefit from the death of this most Majestic Beast..." Thrasher editor, Jake Phelps, has been pumping this thing up for weeks, and he has called out just about everyone. Not to mention having a factory line of skateboard industry heavyweights as guests on his, Ask The Phelper show, to talk about what their expecting. The hype-up process climaxed yesterday with an SF skate warlord. Of course Phelps is going to end with John Cardiel. I believe the Bad Shit (Phelp's band) lyrics are, "All Hail Cardiel." Well, we all should hail Cardiel, he's a god damn legend, and he'll be the judge of the event. Basically, Wallenburg is four really long stairs that were first ollied by Marc Gonzales back in 1990, and since have become that of legend. I know you're probably saying to yourself, "four staris that's it." Well it's four of the biggest fucking stairs you've ever seen. They're longer then they are high, there's a crack right before the top step, and a decline after that crack. Pretty much, if you can do something down Wallenburg, you can consider yourself a man, or if you're Elissa Steamer, a rad fucking chick. She just about ollied them in the 2004 contest, but just couldn't stick it. In the that event all that went down was a: fronside flip (Andrew Reynolds), switch backside 180 (Darrel Stanton) and a heelflip (Lindsey Robertson). This year we're expecting moves like a: hard flip, nollie, switch flip, backside heel, varial heel, switch heel and possibly a nollie flip. Two of those, a man by the name of, Andrew Reynolds, has, but word is he may be hurt right now and not able to make it, we'll see. Others expected to shine are: Mike Mo, Torey Pudwell, Lindsey Robertson, Cairo Foster, Adam Dyet, Chris Cole, Bryan Herman and some guy named Ryan, or Byran, or something, Sheckler. There you go, if you find yourself in the Bay Area, and you call yourself a skateboarder, you better be there. History is about to go down. This is the last time they're ever having this event, because the Wallenberg set is being torn down by the city of San Fransisco in the not too distant future. Here's a video where the man himself, Jake Phelps, explains what he's expecting, and shows footage of 2004: Thrasher Skateboard Magazine Channels: Skate < previous 743 of 1565 next > |
