"I fail to see the "Sport" associated with such a barbaric act of killing this beautiful beast of the Oceans. Human beings, according to most medical data, house a superior brain to any living thing on this Earth, yet, everyday, we see this battle of man and animal played out, as if the animal had a hell of a chance to succeed...What I do not understand is what kind of pleasure do you get from killing this wonderful and majestic animal, even if it were a contest, what personal pleasure do you derive from ending its life...???...it belongs in the Ocean and yet, your so called, "superior" brain, told you to kill it, take it out of its environment & stand next to it for a photographic record of the violent event....Please, try and understand what we are trying to convey to you people, who take pleasure in ending a life of this and other living things, here on Earth...Let them live, as they are God's Creatures and He put them here for other reasons and not so that you could spend a day, wallowing in its blood & salt water, for yes, a photographic record of this barbaric event...Let the animals and other creatures live, if possible, for I see no benefit to mankind, or to the field of medicine or any other necessary event that would allow mankind to benefit from the death of this most Majestic Beast..."

  • A Tale Of Two Cities

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...Man I've always wanted to open with that, but just never really had the opportunity, but now, thanks to Etnies, I do. They recently unveiled their Tale of Two Cities mini-site where the skate shoe brand profiles a few of their European skaters.

And in case you don't know it's also the title of one of the greatest books of all time with, what many call, the best opening line in literature. It's all by a man named Charles Dickens. The whole opener goes as follows:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Is that not some of the most intriguing writing you've ever read? Doesn't it make you want to go out, pick up this book and see what all these contradictions are about? Well you should, it has been around for 151 years, and is still read today, so there's probably something to it. It's about the social parallels of society in Paris and London during the years leading up to the French Revolution; check it out. Literally, you don't have to buy it, there are these things called libraries.

Alright, so back to Etnies' A Tale of Two Cities. They've made two videos where they take a pair of their European riders, "who proudly represent the cities they call home," and profile them together in a video short.

The first duo was Willow hailing from Berlin, Germany and Joe Gavin from Manchester, England. In the second edition it's Tuukka Korhonen representing Helsinki, Finland and Julian Furones from Leon, Spain.

  • Lizard King The Entertainer

The infamous Lizard King showed up for a signing at Bryan Herman's Pharmacy skate shop in LA the other day and did his usual. If you've ever been to a contest, signing or demo Lizard is at then you know how much the kids love him. They chant his name, hound him for autographs and just simply want to be a part of the aura that is The King. And he always gives each one of them his time.

Doughnut from Baker Boys Distribution was there to catch, this, the most recent Lizard show in the video below. He was all over the place with some spontaneous skateboarding that was 100% passion.

Besides the reptile, most of the Baker family was there including: Andrew Reynolds, Erik Ellington, Justin Roy, Nuge, Greco, Dollin, Braydon, Neen and more.

For more photos of the day make sure to cruise over to Baker Boys Distribution.

  • Westgate Praise

There had been Brandon Westgate talk in the skate industry for some time, but it wasn't until the release of the Emerica video, Stay Gold, that the talking turned into a scream. The unique, big and fast way that he skates has been no secret for years to anyone in the know.

He made his first major video appearance in the 2004 Volcom video, Chichagof. Then, skateboarding saw a fully mature Westgate in the 2008 release of the Zoo York video, State of Mind.

The Westgate chatter had begun. Then it happened, the Stay Gold intro ended, the curtain opened, and there he was throwing down one of the meanest sections in years. The part where he's cruising down that hill in San Francisco and just olling peoples front yards at top speed is just unreal.

Well, CCS sat down a few industry heavyweights to talk Westgate. Praise from The Chief (Jamie Thomas) and The Boss (Andrew Reynolds); it doesn't get much better than that. And in between Ryan Sheckler, Zarred Basset and Eli Reed all give props. Check it out below:

  • Heath Kirchart Cycles Across The Country

In some more Heath Kirchart news, the skateboarding legend rode his bike from LA to New York City. I know what you thinking, riding a motorcycle, which Heath is known to do, across the country isn't that big of a deal. Well guess what? He rode a bicycle.

Yup, he retired from skateboarding and decided to peddle across the entire country along with his friend and photographer, Jeff Vallee, and they did it in 53 days. Heath has always been a bit erratic, choosing to do things his way; differently. But this is just ridiculous. Neither of these two guys are even that into cycling, and from the looks of things it appears to have been a spur-of-the-moment drunk idea. (See text message to the right).

This is just one more thing you can chalk up to the legendary career of Heath Kirchart. And when I say career I'm not talking about skateboarding anymore, I'm talking about life. The guy is in Harley Davidson commercials with models, he hangs with some pretty big deals in LA and NYC and now he's bicycle riding across the United States.

The Starbucks I go to every morning is full of those super-into-it cyclist guys with their lycra outfits complete with pretend sponsors plastered all over them, you know the ones. It's like come on man, we all know your old ass is not sponsored by Audi and the Postal Service to ride around a bike.

Anyway, I bet those guys couldn't do it any faster than Heath and Jeff did. Never mind the spandex, Heath wore his signature Indian Jones hat which is for sure not aerodynamic.
