To help increase dealership traffic, the Motorcycle Industry Council Board of Directors has launched Revive Your Ride! the first industry-wide promotional campaign designed to help raise consumer awareness about special dealership sales, incentives and activities across the nation. Dealerships can download logos, advertising templates and other promotional items, all for free at www.mic.org/reviveyourride.

Revive Your Ride! can do for powersports retailers what Black Friday does for holiday sales: send riders and those who shop for them to powersports retailers across the country. It is an industry-wide campaign with a unified theme, style and design that can be used by all powersports retailers to help break through today's marketing clutter.

"The theme Revive Your Ride! can mean accessorizing the motorcycle you already have, pulling a machine out of the back of the garage and putting it back on the road or trail, getting some overdue service done, sizing up some fresh riding gear, and, yes, it can mean a new bike or ATV too," said Frank Esposito, member of the MIC Board of Directors and president of Kendon Industries, Inc. "The unified theme, style and design, if used by many dealerships, repeatedly, can collectively cut through today's marketing clutter. We want a clear message to customers that regardless of how much they have to spend, now is the best time to visit their local motorcycle dealer, aftermarket outlet or service shop. The product selection is great right now, the deals are generous and there is plenty of expert dealership staff to help."

Retailers can begin to use the Revive Your Ride! theme and promotional tools now to jump-start the ATV and holiday shopping season. The promotional tools are designed to be simple and flexible, and can be tailored to fit local market conditions and individual dealer needs. The Revive Your Ride! website contains a number of promotional suggestions that dealerships can add to what they are already doing to give customers even more reasons to visit retailers now.

Esposito and the MIC's Board members conceived Revive Your Ride! to help dealers build floor traffic. It was further developed with input from the aftermarket members and is supported by a wide range of association members. A list of actively participating MIC member companies can be viewed on the website. In addition, MIC member agencies, media outlets and others are involved with 'in-kind' support.

"It's built so dealerships can make it work for themselves and make it work for their customers - the ones they already have and the ones they want to gain," said board member Eric Anderson, change agent of Vroom Network. "It's free for everyone to use as they see fit, and we hope it's adopted by many. We think that Revive Your Ride! can offer a marketing boost and help do for powersports retailers what the Superbowl, Thanksgiving and Presidents, Memorial and Labor Day sales events help do for department and grocery stores."

Early participating MIC members include:
Advanstar
Dealernews
GE Money
Kendon Industries
Motorcycle USA
Parts Magazine
Powersports Business
Schiefer Media, Inc.
The Creative Works
Vroom Network

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues.
As the weeks wind down until the season opener in Grand Rapids, Mich., January 8-10, the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series roster is starting to take shape as longtime series supporter Storm Lake Honda announced its rider lineup for the upcoming season.

“Having a shop that stands behind us and knows racing is awesome,” said Team Manager Matt Draper. “Storm Lake Honda is one of those few dealerships that understand the sport and when we need something, they go out and do whatever they can for us to make it happen. They’ve never once not done something they said they would and that is hard to find.”

Leading the way for Storm Lake is defending AMA Arenacross Lites Central Region champion Kurt McCabe. The Iowa native relied on consistency to claim his first career AMA title last season and just a few short weeks ago, rode to a dominant Lites class victory in front of his hometown crowd at the Des Moines prequel.

“Kurt will be our Arenacross class rider for 2010,” added Draper. “He will run some select Lites races for the chance to run that number one plate. I feel that he should run that number one every chance he gets because you never know if you’ll get that chance again.”

Joining McCabe is a pair of young up and comers in Ricky Draper and Brian Foster. For each rider, the 2009 season was their debut on the pro level and each gained valuable experience that will prove vital in their foray into the AMA Arenacross Lites class.

“Ricky (who was previously injured) was just released and will be racing next weekend,” explained Draper. “Unfortunately, Brian suffered an injury and will be out for a few months. We’ll be holding his spot though awaiting his return. The initial plan was to have Brian compete in the East Coast Lites and Ricky the West Coast Lites but with the recent changes we’ll see how things work out. Both riders are also qualified for the premier class and will take a shot at the main events at select races.”

Storm Lake took advantage of getting an early jump on 2010 at the Des Moines prequel, bringing all three riders to compete one final time before the official start to the season. With McCabe’s aforementioned success and a solid seventh place effort from Foster, it looks to be a promising year for the Iowa-based team. The chance to race in Des Moines was great for us. It gave us an opportunity to ride our new bikes in a race environment and I’m really happy with how we performed,” Draper continued

The 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicks-off in Grand Rapids, Mich., January 8-10 from Van Andel Arena. Tickets for all rounds of the 2010 season can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com and www.arenacross.com.

For more information on the AMA Arenacross Series log on to www.arenacross.com.

The Rider Reflex control system provides unparalleled precision and fluidity by separating machine steering from body positioning, which allows the independently controlled rider to shift his weight, perform death-defying stunts and avoid potentially devastating wrecks. Unprecedented terrain deformation creates ever-changing courses as off-road vehicles carve lines and deep ruts that have a real-time impact on gameplay and remain persistent through the full length of each race.
In a difficult yet critical decision, it was announced today that James Stewart will withdraw from competing in the Genoa Supercross (Genoa, Italy) and Brisbane Super X (Brisbane, Australia) due to medical reasons. James was forced to withdraw from the 3rd day of racing the Bercy Supercross (Paris, France) and forfeit his potential win as a result of contracting a severe case of food poisoning. Upon return to the United States and his home base in Florida, James took minimal time to recover before getting back into an aggressive training and testing program for the upcoming races and 2010 Supercross season. After recent medical evaluation, his Doctor and L&M medical staff found his immune system to be dangerously compromised and James was advised by his Doctor and Team that he should discontinue any strenuous activity and not travel out of the country at this time.

When asked about the decision, James had this to say: “I am really bummed about not being able to race in Italy and Australia. I’ve had such a great experience racing internationally. The fans are incredible and the race organizations really go out of their way to support me racing. I really wish I could still go but after talking with my doctors and team it’s not in my best interest to jeopardize my health before the long Supercross season starts.”

Said Larry Brooks, Team San Manuel Manager “At this time, James will be focusing on getting healthy and preparing to defend his Supercross championship title. Taking time to improve his health and well being is our first priority.” James will continue to undergo medical evaluation and refrain from any kind of strenuous training activity until his Doctor and medical staff advise he is fit to resume.

Lets be honest, nothing will put a big ol' toothy grin on your face like a day on a mini bike. Whether you're a young kid who just got his first ride, or an adult bashing bars with your friends in the backyard, riding these little things can be just about as much fun as you can have with an engine and two spinning tires.

Just this past weekend Kawasaki invited us out to swing a leg over their new 2010 KLX 110 and 110L models at the Fox Headquarters here in Southern California. Fox has constructed one of the greatest pit bike tracks we've seen, stretching all the way around the office, weaving in and out of trees, resplendent (yes, we said resplendent) with jumps, burms and everything else you'd want to rail a bike over.

The 2010 KLX 110L

First, the bikes. The KLX 110 has been around for a number of years now, and amongst the changes for this season the most welcomed and enjoyed has to be the the keyless electric start. If you've ever chased a kid around a track just to re-start his bike for him over and over, you'll be happy to know that the young'un can now just press a button and off they go. The bike has also been re-styled for the new year to more closely resemble its bigger brother, the KX 250F and 450F.

The KLX 110L, which is a new model for this year, offers a few parts that will appeal to the larger rider. Whether that be a younger kid just wishing to make a transition or a full grown parent, the addition of larger suspension (nearly 5.5 inches fore and aft) and a clutch make the ride that much more enjoyable. To open the bike up to the larger sized audience Kawasaki also added a taller seat, up by about 2 inches from the standard KLX model. The bike also received a slight power bump and now comes equipped with a 4th gear.

With my slightly, a'hem, larger frame, I spent most of my time on the KLX 110L banging bars with the rest of the motorcycle press. The suspension is clearly much more plush on the larger model, coming up short on some of the smaller step-downs that the Fox track has to offer wasn't that big of a deal. Aside from the ergonomic advantages, the clutch really takes the fun factor to a whole new level. Burry that thing into a corner, rev it to the moon and drop the clutch and you feel like a hero.

Andrew Silverstein made an appearance and showed us all how to ride a mini bike.

The folks at Kawasaki made a very wise decision adding the KLX 110L to the lineup, removing what was once a very large gap between juniors first bike and his second, and maybe more importantly gave the parents a reason to keep the bike around once the kid grows out of it.

Retail on these machines is $2099 for the 110 and $2249 for the 110L.

More information can be found at www.kawasaki.com

Technical Details

2010 Kawasaki KLXTM110L Specifications*Engine: Four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve singleDisplacement: 111ccBore x Stroke: 53.0 x 50.6mm
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Cooling: Air
Carburetion: Mikuni PB18
Ignition: CDI
Transmission: Four-speed
Final Drive: Chain
Frame: Backbone frame, high-tensile steel
Rake / Trail: 24.2 degrees / 1.9 in.
Front Suspension / Wheel Travel: 30mm hydraulic telescopic fork / 5.2 in.
Rear Suspension / Wheel Travel: Swingarm with single hydraulic shock / 5.1 in.
Front Tire: 2.50x14
Rear Tire: 3.00x12
Front Brake / Rear Brake: Mechanical Drum / Mechanical Drum
Overall Length: 61.4 in.
Overall Width: 25.6 in.
Overall Height: 39.0
Ground Clearance: 10.4 in.
Seat Height: 28.7 in.
Curb Weight: 168 lbs.
Wheelbase: 42.3 in.
Fuel Capacity: 1.0 gal.
Color: Lime Green
MSRP: $2,249
Warranty: 6 Months

2010 Kawasaki KLXTM110 Specifications*
Engine: Four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve single
Displacement: 111cc
Bore x Stroke: 53.0 x 50.6mm
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Cooling: Air
Carburetion: Mikuni PB18
Ignition: CDI
Transmission: Four-speed with automatic clutch
Final Drive: Chain
Frame: Backbone frame, high-tensile steel
Rake / Trail: 24.8 degrees / 2.0 in.
Front Suspension / Wheel Travel: 30mm hydraulic telescopic fork / 4.3 in.
Rear Suspension / Wheel Travel: Swingarm with single hydraulic shock / 4.3 in.
Front Tire: 2.50x14
Rear Tire: 3.00x12
Front Brake / Rear Brake: Mechanical Drum / Mechanical Drum
Overall Length: 61.4 in.
Overall Width: 25.6 in.
Overall Height: 37.6
Ground Clearance: 8.5 in.
Seat Height: 26.8 in.
Curb Weight: 168 lbs.
Wheelbase: 42.3 in.
Fuel Capacity: 1.0 gal.
Color: Lime Green
MSRP: $2,099
Warranty: 6 Months

David Bailey is aptly known as the ICON within our sport but his courage and determination have inspired many that have never even thrown a leg over a dirt bike. David once again showed his defining character by competing in this year’s grueling Ironman race in Hawaii just two years removed from his most difficult health struggle since his career-ending injury. David will outline the path as he shares that story with us tonight.

GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham is out in California putting in the mandatory preseason testing time, but will check in with us as soon as the lap moto of the day is complete. We are just glad that he is back with his familiar team for 2010 and his fans will see him on the gate for Anaheim 1 after taking most of the summer off.

Suzuki City’s Matt Lemoine is a better rider than his results showed in 2009 and he is hard at work preparing for the upcoming season to prove that. We have known this kid since he was on mini bikes and know he has what it takes to be hunting podiums this year. The only draw back is that he is a Dallas Cowboy’s fan, but I guess we can let that slide for now.

Zach Osborne raced the MX2-GP for the Utag Yamaha.com team in 2009 which included an impressive win in Istanbul, Turkey. I think that’s the first time we’ve used Istanbul in a press release but it’s about damn time. We will see what Zach has on the table for the future and catch up with our good friend.

Concept2 Rowers have taken over our sport as a smart option for conditioning and aerobic training.
Bell Powersports has extended its relationship with rising motocross star Justin Brayton for the 2010 season on the heels of an outstanding year for the 27-year-old. Brayton is no stranger to Bell, having competed in the Bell Moto-8 for the 2009 season as part of a team sponsorship with the MDK/KTM/Muscle Milk team and on the Bell-sponsored Motoworld team in two seasons prior. The new contract is an individual deal with Brayton who moves to the Toyota Joe Gibbs Yamaha team for 2010.

“I’m so pumped to get the win (at the Bercy Supercross). It’s the perfect way to start the relationship with my new team, JGR,” Brayton said. “I’m also excited Bell Helmets was able to come with me to my new team. I’ve worn Bell since the Motoworld days, so they’ve basically had my back my whole Supercross career.”

Brayton won the “King of Bercy” title over Halloween weekend, and finished fourth in the Supercross West Lites class in ’09. For outdoors he stepped up to the 450 class where he finished seventh on the year, including a win in the final moto at Steel City in the series’ final round.

“We’re really happy to have Justin continue in Bell,” said Sports Marketing Manager Chuck Platt. “This year he’s had some great results in the Lites class as well as on big bikes outdoors, not to mention winning the Bercy Supercross and a silver at X Games. He’s also a good ambassador for the sport and an all-around fun guy.”

For 2010 Brayton will ride in a new version of the Moto-8 which has been reengineered to meet the new Snell M2010 safety standard. Another convenient upgrade for 2010 is the new MagnaFusion Strap Keeper which replaces the mechanical snap with a magnetic system—the latter which is much easier to use with gloved hands.

Brayton joins 2009 Supercross champ James Stewart on Bell; more riders and teams to be named later.

Rider: Justin Brayton
DOB: March 14, 1984
Residence: Murietta, Calif.

Career Highlights:
2009 Bercy Supercross (France) - First Place Overall
2009 AMA Motocross 450 Class – Seventh Place
2009 AMA Supercross Lites West Class– Fourth Place
2002-2003 AMA Arenacross “Rookie of the Year”

2010 Bell Moto-8 Video News Release: http://tinyurl.com/bellmoto8vnr10

Bell Website: www.bellpowersports.com

Twitter Feed: www.twitter.com/BellPowersports

YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/BellPowersports

Facebook: Search “Bell Powersports”

A raucous crowd filled Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night as the AMA Arenacross Series provided a sneak preview of the 2010 season at the second annual Des Moines prequel race. With an $11,000 purse up for grabs, Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., claimed the AMA Arenacross class victory while Storm Lake Honda’s Kurt McCabe, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa took the AMA Arenacross Lites win.

The race from Des Moines is a stand-alone race and is not part of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series.

In a lineup that featured four former champions and a bevy of race winners, Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, edged out Bowers and Funmart Cycle Center KTM’s Kelly Smith, of Ludington, Mich. for the holeshot. After putting pressure on Davenport for several laps, Bowers made his move for the lead and paced the field the rest of the way.

“(This) feels pretty good,” said Bowers, who returns to the AMA Arenacross Series after a two-year stint in Monster Energy® Supercross. “Josh (Demuth) was there at the end and kept me honest but I just settled in and pulled away. Fellow Hawkeye state native McCabe took over the top spot and never looked back. The reigning AMA Arenacross Lites Central Region champion led all 18 laps of the main event to post a big win in front of his hometown fans.

“It feels awesome,” exclaimed McCabe. “I got a good jump off gate. Unfortunately, Gavin fell. I was looking forward to having a good race with him.
Starting the Winstar World Casino 350K from the ninth position at Texas Motor Speedway, Ricky Carmichael and the No. 4 Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado ran as high as sixth before crossing the finish line in the 12th position. The finish marked Carmichael’s sixth top-15 finish of the season.

“We just lost the handling there a little bit,” said Carmichael following the race. “It was a good run. I’m happy. It’s nice to finally finish a race with nothing wrecked. I had a blast this year with these guys. I’ve got to thank KHI and obviously Monster Energy. I’m happy to bring this thing home in one piece and get a solid run.”

Making the final start of his 16-race schedule with KHI this season, Carmichael slipped from the ninth starting position to 16th before the first caution of the night waved. The team decided to make no changes to the handling of the truck and brought Carmichael down pit road first for four tires followed by a second stop for fuel.

Restarting the race from the 21st position, Carmichael told the team the truck was awesome and began to make his move toward the front. By lap 50 Carmichael was able to move into the top 15. Several laps later on lap 54, the caution was again displayed for debris. Fighting a loose-handling truck, Carmichael came down pit road for right-side tires and a second time for fuel. With help from crew chief John Monsam, Carmichael opted to turn his fans off to help tighten the truck rather than make adjustments to the truck. The race restarted on lap 59 with the No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado in the 12th position.

Continuing to run fast laps, Carmichael moved into the top 10 on lap 65. On lap 88 under the final caution of the race, running in the ninth position, Carmichael radioed the team that the truck was a little loose. The team pitted for four fresh tires with an air-pressure adjustment and a second time for fuel. With a fast stop, Carmichael restarted the race on lap 93 in the ninth spot.

Maintaining his position in the top 10, Carmichael was running eighth when he radioed the team on lap 114 to say the truck was really loose. Several laps later he again said the truck was bad loose, falling to 12th on lap 118. Making adjustments to the handling of the truck by adjusting the fans, Carmichael remained in the 12th position when he crossed the start-finish line on lap 147. The 12th-place finish marked Carmichael’s sixth top-15 finish in 16 Truck Series starts this season.

Kyle Busch scored the win followed by Matt Crafton, KHI teammate Ron Hornaday, Todd Bodine and Colin Braun.

STATS RECAP

November 6, 2009
Texas Motor Speedway
Winstar World Casino 350K
Race: 23 of 25
Driver: Ricky Carmichael
Started: 9th
Finished: 12th
Race length: 147 Laps/ 220.5 Miles
Banking/Turns: 24-degrees turns; 5-degree straight-a-ways
Track layout: 1.5-mile
Shape: Quad-oval
Number of Race Cautions: 3 for 14 Laps

Next on the Truck Series Schedule:

Date: November 13, 2009
Track: Phoenix International Raceway
Event Name: Lucas Oil 150
Driver: Kevin Harvick
Broadcast Time: SPEED 7:30pm EST

The American star reacted immediately, showing to his rivals that Bercy was his 'garden' as he dominates the following three rounds of the 'American race'. But James had some pressure and even made a big mistake when he went out of the track, missing to crash in a technical section! He didn't got the holeshot in the main event but lead his rivals after two corners, and made another show to win easily this last race of the night. Aranda also made a mistake in the American race, but the Frenchman wasn't as lucky as James and retired; he got his revenge in the main event, keeping the second spot for a while until Brayton passed him. The ballot for the grid placement in the main event wasn't good for Justin and Musquin, but both did a great come back in the top four to secure the overall podium of the night behind Stewart. Third on his 250 KTM Musquin confirmed his ability on a Supercross track, and expect to get some great starts on Sunday for the third and last night of the event.

Injured on Friday night during the main event, Steve Boniface underwent surgery today in the famous hospital 'La Pitié Salpetrière' in Paris.

Corey Floyd has been chasing the WORCS Pro2 Championship for quite awhile now and has had to deal with his share of adversity along the way. From untimely injuries to freak mechanical break downs this kid's seen it all. This year he finally achieved his goal by wrapping up the title by just 2 points over JP Davis at the final round in Mesquite, NV. Doing so, even though he missed a round mid-season due to an broken wrist. Corey is one of the nicest kids in the pits so we figured we'd catch up with him to see how he felt about his first major championship.

Well Corey, it's been a couple days since you wrapped up the WORCS Pro2 Championship, has it set in yet?
I was way too tired to be happy at first, but I think it really hit me when they called my name at the awards banquet afterwards.

Walk us through the last round, the pressure was on since you had missed a round due to a broken wrist, was the added pressure hard to deal with or did you just treat it like any other race?
I went into the race feeling really confident but when I finally geared up and went to the line, my heart was jumping out of my chest.

Well, you ended up pulling off the championship by 2 points so whatever you did must have worked!
Yeah, not quite sure how I pulled it off, but somehow it all came together.

I know this is something that you've been working towards for a long time and it hasn't been an easy road, you've had to battle quite a few injuries amongst other things, do you think this could be the breakthrough that you needed?
I would think so. Now that I got this championship under my belt and felt how good it was to win, maybe this will be the extra push I need to get to the next level.

Tell us a little bit about how you got started in racing and what led you to WORCS.
It all started up in Washington where I did a local off-road series. The top guys from that series tried some WORCS races a few years back. That's really how I heard about them. Plus WORCS is really the top off-road series in the nation in my opinion. So if you want to go big, you have to race where the big names are.

A lot of racers that are at your level work with trainers and coaches, do you have anyone that is helping you out with your program?
I haven't hired anybody but somehow I stumbled across of group of friends that are extremely helpful. They seriously will do anything for me. I do my own thing training wise, but when it comes to the race, I have a ridiculous amount of help. I think they see how much I want this, so they give any helping hand they can to make things a little easier for me.

This was an interesting year for you, I know the first round didn't go as well as you would have liked and then you had to deal with a broken wrist mid season, did you have to make any changes throughout the year to help you stay on top?
I think I made changes every race to be honest. Towards the end of the season I got a lot more serious. Like as far as suspension testing and just time on the bike. I also started training with Lance Smail in Washington, which helped huge. Just riding with him was a lesson in itself.

This was your first year riding for the Monster Energy/Kawasaki team which is the first real support ride you've had, how big of a help was that for you?
They are a life saver. I look back on last year when I did most things on my own and I wonder how I pulled it off. It almost just seems unfair how much easier things are for me this year in terms of bike preparation. Plus, just knowing that somebody believes in you enough to have you represent their company is an honor in itself.

What are the plans for next year?
Well with the way the economy is right now, I would just be happy to be able to ride again for another year. But I got another ride with Monster Energy/Kawasaki for one more year in the Pro2 class, so i'm really happy. Hopefully I can win the title again and get some better overall finishes.

You recently moved down to California from Washington so that you could concentrate on racing, what do you do for fun when you're not training or riding?
Well I recently got a new house with two of my best friends, so we have fun all day long. We all pretty much do the same stuff too. Our latest thing is going to rock climbing gyms. Our new house has a pool too so we have been swimming even when it's cold.

You keep a pretty tight knit group of friends around you who are also pretty good riders themselves; do you think this helps you out?
Yeah, like I said, any of them would do anything for anybody. I try to help them out as much as I can, but they are life savers to me.

Who would you like to thank?
Well let's see... Monster Energy Kawasaki, Moose, TBT, Shoei, Dunlop, Smith, Maxima, Fastway, GPR, Renthal and all my sponsors. Then of course my mom, my step dad Corey and my dad, Jason Smigel from Kawsaki, Dylan and all my friends that help me during race weekends, and you for wanting to interview me! Thank you!

The first night of the 27th Supercross of Paris Bercy has been once more exciting, following the tradition of the main European Supercross. The new racing program didn’t affected James Stewart, who won all the races as he did last year, and beats fellow countryman Justin Brayton.

Superpole, American race and traditional main event: for James Stewart it’s always the same story! Relax and smiling when he arrived in the Palais Omnisports, the reigning World Champion took his time to find the good rhythm on the layout and finally didn’t let any chance to his rivals. It was a great night for his fans who cheer him all night long. “The atmosphere is always great here, and I’m happy to be back. The fans were nice to me, and it took me some time to feel comfortable but I did it and won all the races” said James after the main event. He was leading his rivals when the race director put the red flag after a crash of Steve Boniface, but a few minutes later James got another holeshot to win the last race. Always fast in Bercy, Justin Brayton finished three times runner-up and scored a second position overall, followed by the ‘Frenchies’. Benjamin Coisy, Gregory Aranda and Marvin Musquin were the strongest, and it’s finally Greg who finished on the podium of the night. Fast and consistent all night long he beats Musquin, who lost all his chances when he retired in the American race after a technical problem; the MX2 World Champion took his revenge as he scored a great podium in the main event.

Justin Brayton got a great second place tonight (Photo P.Haudiquert)

Superpole: 1.Stewart (USA, Yamaha L&M); 2.Brayton (USA, Yamaha JGR); 3.Aranda (FRA, Kawasaki Bud); 4.Izoird (FRA, Suzuki); 5.Coulon (FRA, Suzuki); 6.Boniface (FRA, Honda Hall de la Moto); 7.Musquin (FRA, KTM Red Bull); 8.Hill (USA, Yamaha L&M); 9.Boni (USA, Honda Campeneac Moto); 10.Coisy (FRA, Honda); etc...

American race: 1.Stewart; 2.Brayton; 3.Coisy; 4.Hill; 5.Boniface; 6.Wey (USA; Kawasaki Bud); 7.Aranda; 8.Boni; 9.Izoird; 10.Martin (FRA, Husqvarna); etc...

Main event: 1.Stewart; 2.Brayton; 3.Musquin; 4.Aranda; 5.Izoird; 6.Boni; 7.Wey; 8.Martin; 9.Hill; 10.Renet (FRA, Suzuki Bodo); etc...

Overall 1st night: 1.Stewart; 2.Brayton; 3.Aranda; 4.Izoird; 5.Hill; 6.Boni; 7.Musquin; 8.Wey; 9.Boniface; 10.Coisy; 11.Martin; 12.Coulon; 13.Renet; 14.Thomas.

Marvin Musquin had a great final race, where he scored a podium (Photo P.Haudiquert)

The podium of the first night (Photo P.Haudiquert)

James Stewart stays unbeatable after his fourth night in Paris (Photo P.Haudiquert)

Obviously, that was not the case and Nico is in California on his new ride testing away this week as he prepares for the upcoming supercross season. Nico will tell his us about his struggles after the injury and the difficult path back to the starting gate.

Austin Stroupe had a rough summer after breaking his hip at Hangtown which was made worse by the rumors and speculation that surrounded his absence while recovering. Austin will have the opportunity to tell the story in his own words tonight and also give us the latest on the news that he signed with Factory Suzuki.

Pro Circuit's Jake Weimer is fast becoming one of our favorite guests to have on with his quick wit and unique sense of humor. "Oscar Mayer" Weimer had a great year that was topped off with a win at the prestigious Motocross des Nations, and yes I said "des." It will be interesting to hear his take after having a few weeks for it to all soak in.

Troy Lee Racing's David Pingree was able to see an entirely new side of racing last year as team manager and is trying to apply all that he learned to this season. The buck stops with Ping and he will give us an update on their silly season as Anaheim is quickly approaching.

Don't forget to check out Vurb's EPIC motocross movie that is garnering rave reviews throughout the industry.

Tattoos have become synonymous with the culture of motocross, especially within the FMX community. Riders such as Carey Hart and Mike Metzger have pioneered the sport of freestyle motocross and further established themselves as artists and capitalists within the "inked" community. Another such creative mind is that of Kyle Loza. Besides being a multiple X Games Gold winning athlete, Loza is a profoundly accomplished out-of-house tattoo artist. We followed Beau Manley (fellow FMX rider, host of the "Manley Show" EXPN) on his trip to being tattooed by the artist himself, Kyle Loza.

Manley on getting tattooed by Loza.
"I have a back without tattoos on it, and I wanted to get the artist known as Kyle Loza to do it. It's pretty sick when someone that rides dirtbikes has a talent like that."

How did you and Kyle Loza become friends?
"I met him a few times and now we are working on this little project. I liked his style he skateboards, has tattoos, he is on his own program, he isn't your average guy. He's an individual and I like individuals."

What exactly are you getting tattooed today?
"I'm getting a Hawk. I live out in the desert and there is a Native American burial ground nearby. The hawks are always around and I feel like they communicate with me. I needed to get it tattooed on me."

Beau sat down in the room to begin and Kyle prepped the paints. Looking around the studio, Kyle's innate artistic talent was visible everywhere. On the walls were paintings and drawings that expressed a sincere religious devotion and unique perception of pop culture.

I asked Kyle how he got into tatooing.
"My aunt is an amazing artist. She got me into art when I was little and always gave me lessons. Every winter we'd hang out in the snow and draw stuff. I used to drawson my body and not even thinking about tattoos. All the time during church camp on the bus drive up I'd draw sleeves on all of my friends and stuff. I bought a tattoo machine on the Internet and I started doing tattoos and ruining my friends bodies."

What inspires you?
"With anything I do, I try to make something that makes people think. I also have this thing for antlers, I've been drawing antlers on girls faces for a long time."

You are also in a band called Piranha fever; does your music and art ever transpire together?
"Yes, the other day I wrote a song about a painting I did. I painted a dreamland of creatures drinking potion in a cave. I just explained it through music, it translates directly."

There's a lot of religion in your art, do you find it difficult to maintain your faith in a sport (freestyle) that where faith is slightly taboo?
"No. I do my own thing. I have been Christian since I was four. I'm still friends with all the same people. I just do my own thing, with everything I do I try to do it differently."

What is your next focus?
"I'm having surgery on my wrist pretty soon here then my focus is back to X Games."

Someday would you like to own your own Tattoo studio, and go into that field full time?
"Definitely, I mean that's the plan. I'd definitely like to do that."

It is obvious that not only is Kyle Loza one of the most innovative minds in the sport of freestyle motocross, but he is also a rare example of true artistic talent. Be sure to watch Kyle as his career blossoms and grows. As a father and husband, artist and athlete, Kyle Loza is truly one of the most talented people involved in the industry of motocross.

At the Klotz Ironman GNCC, the final round of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country series, Shock Doctor KTM's Nate Kanney was the best at battling the steepest hills of the 13-stop circuit. After an intense battle that saw Kanney, and FMF Makita Suzuki's Charlie Mullins and Josh Strang trading in and out of the lead. Kanney emerged with his first victory of the season by just inches over Mullins. The massive crowd on hand, easily the largest of the season, cheered both to the finish in a fitting season finale. Behind the leaders, GEICO/JG Racing/Monster Kawasaki's Paul Whibley claimed the 2009 GNCC Championship with a safe fourth-place finish.

"I just can't even believe it," said Whibley, of New Zealand. "I don't have the words for this right now. This is my ultimate goal, to win the GNCC Championship in the U.S."

This is Kanney's third Ironman win in the last four years. "I feel really comfortable in this dirt," said New York native Kanney. "Today was kind of dumb luck. I think Mullins and Strang were going faster than me and honestly, I didn't even know I was in the lead."

Mulins was the fastest out of the front line and nabbed the $250 Motorcycle-USA.com holeshot award. Mullins then led the first three laps and battled with his teammate Strang until he went into what he called a "bottomless mudhole." Whibley's finish secured the XC1 Pro Championship.

Strang crashed on the first lap but when he overtook Mullins, he led until he managed to get stuck on the last two laps in mudholes. Mullins and Kanney were able to move back past him as they started a wheel-to-wheel battle to the finish line where Kanney and Mullins came to a wheel-crashing finish with Kanney mere inches in the lead.

"I made some mistakes and I cost myself the race," Mullins said. "I just came up short but I'll take it. I think I learned a lot this year and I'm glad to end the season with another podium."

Strang finished about a minute behind in third.

"The track was perfect," Strang said. "I was relaxed up front but made a silly mistake and Charlie and Nate capitalized on it. But it was a good day and a good season."

Kanney had gotten stuck in the mud early in the race, and was shocked when he realized he might take a first place finish. "I tried to keep my cool and get to the finish," he said. "I'm still surprised. It's been a tough year but it's a relief to get a win for the team and give back to those guys."

While Kanney, Mullins and Strang battled for the lead, the probable Champion Whibley stayed in the back of the pack, after taking off fast. A crash with Am-Pro Yamaha's Thad Duvall made Whibley back off and play it safe until the end, where he was presented with the number one plate after he finished fourth. Whibley only had to remain in the top 14 to take home the championship. This is the fifth year in a row that a rider born outside of the U.S. has been crowned the XC1 Pro Champion.

Mullins, Kanney and Strang celebrate their wins. "It's been an amazing year working with my team and (Team Managers) Gretchen and J.T.," Whibley said. "I couldn't have asked for a better team manager. This is my job, this is what I live for and this is the ultimate payback for all that hard work and training in the rain and the mud. The GNCC is the pinnacle of cross country racing in the world. I came here from Europe and this is my style of racing."

Whibley's teammate Jimmy Jarrett, racing back into shape with a wrist injury, also had a good start but unfortunately began to fall back throughout the race to finish five and a half minutes behind his GEICO teammate in fifth. Husaberg's Jesse Robinson finished sixth, followed by Am-Pro FMF Yamaha's Barry Hawk in seventh. Shock Doctor KTM's Kurt Caselli finished in eighth followed by Corey Arbogast on an Aprilia in ninth and Husqvarna's Glenn Kearney, who had a good start but had back luck later, rounding out the top 10. Buttrick finished the season with a strong win.

In XC2 racing action, Shock Doctor KTM's Cory Buttrick took the win, followed by his teammate Kailub Russell in second and Monster Energy/FAR Yamaha's Jason Thomas in third.

The three pulled overall leads in the race, ahead of the XC1 riders at one points, and also secured top overall finishes for the year.

"I knew we were pretty far up in the overall," Buttrick said. "Overall, it was a perfect day. In the beginning of the day, I felt like anything could happen. Everyone was going for broke today and the track was definitely unpredictable."

Russell started the race when he took the $100 Cometic Holeshot Award.

GEICO/JG Racing Monster Energy's Kawasaki's Scotty Watkins was also near the front, staying in the top three or four places for most of the day until he had engine problems on the last lap.

Watkins was able to finish fourth followed by Dustin Gibson in sixth and David Snyder in seventh. Nathan Alering, Morgan Moss and Eric Bailey rounded out the top ten.

Jordan Ashburn took home the Top Amateur Award in the PM race and Robert Hetchinger of the 200A class took home the $100 Coppersmith Amateur Holeshot Award.

In the AM Race, Jeff Cregg took home first place, followed by Jeff Fredette in second and Randall Riggs in third.

XC1 Finish

1. Rumors swirling around about this bike are many, but unfortunately we're unable to confirm anything at this point. Serendipitously, a press release hits the inbox this morning confirming the launch of a "New Motocross Generation in Milan." We're pretty sure that there's a link between the two, but we want you to decide.

See the press release below, and leave a comment about what you think the guy's in Austria have up their collective orange sleeves.

KTM has chosen EICMA (November 10-15, 2009), the world's largest Motorcycle Fair, as the perfect stage to unveil what the future of Motocross looks like for KTM!

The world's first unveiling of a completely new motocross model at the KTM exhibit booth on November 10, 2009 (Hall 18, stand M68), represents a significant step toward "defining new lines." A new XC1 Bike Champion will be decided at the Klotz Ironman GNCC, the final round of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, on October 24-25 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

The torrid battle for the XC1 bike championship will finally come to a close as GEICO/JG Racing Monster Energy Kawasaki's Paul Whibley and FMF Makita Suzuki's Josh Strang face off for the final time. The two have been engaged in a back-and-forth fight for the point lead all season long, but Whibley has held the top spot since Strang crashed into a deer at the Snowshoe GNCC in June. Whibley followed that with two solid wins at Unadilla and Yadkinville. Despite Strang's overwhelming win at the previous race in Ohio, Whibley has a 23-point lead heading into the finale and would essentially have to DNF, with Strang taking the win, to lose the championship.

But at the final round of the series anything could still happen. Contenders include Strang's teammate Charlie Mullins, Whibley's teammate Jimmy Jarrett, and Shock Doctor KTM's Nate Kanney, who won the Ironman race in dominant fashion last year. Kanney just returned from the ISDE in Portugal, and along with teammate and ISDE "Top American" Kurt Caselli will be motivated to keep pushing forward. Husqvarna's Glenn Kearney is returning from a good week at the ISDE, as well. And the Am-Pro FMF Yamaha team, star crossed all season, still holds out hope that Thad DuVall or Barry Hawk can deliver its first win of the season.

ISDE participants Kanney, Caselli, Cory Buttrick and Amanda Mastin will be interviewed on Track Smack Live on Saturday night at 6 p.m. You can listen to the interview live by clicking here, or by going to www.gnccracing.com and clicking on the Track Smack Live link.

A variety of other class championships are on the line at the Ironman, a track most riders call their favorite of the season.
With four consecutive Rally America championships, nine X Games gold medals, the first double backflip on a motorcycle and a hit television series under his belt, it is safe to say that Travis Pastrana has reached the pinnacle of his career – and yet he’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. In fact, on New Year’s Eve at Red Bull: New Year. No Limits., the action sports superstar will step on the accelerator and ring in 2010 by adding yet another jaw-dropping feat to his already impressive resume: the world record for longest distance jump in a rally car. Add a healthy dose of the Pacific Ocean to clear, and now you have a party!

Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. will be televised live on ESPN/ESPN HD on Thursday, December 31, immediately following the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (approx. 11:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. PT). Viewing of Pastrana’s jump will be free to the thousands of revelers in downtown Long Beach.

“I’m looking forward to being part of Red Bull: New Year. No Limits.,” said Pastrana. “Long Beach will continue the tradition of a fun and festive environment for this New Year’s celebration and flying over the water in a car and landing it onto a floating barge will push the limits of anything that I have ever executed in my career. Live events are always difficult and more entertaining, both for the fans and the participants, and so many factors play into the success of this jump. I live for this kind of excitement.”

Joan Lynch, ESPN vice president, content development, added, “We are thrilled to team again with Red Bull to televise this live and exciting event on ESPN for a third year. ESPN is dedicated to bringing live and compelling programming to the viewer and no New Year’s show delivers more unique suspense and action than Red Bull: New Year. No Limits.”

NOT SINCE THE JETSONS WILL A CAR FLY SO FAR

Before the clock strikes midnight on the East Coast on December 31, Pastrana will attempt to accomplish the first ever ramp-to-ramp car jump over water, a feat that will test the laws of physics and take his career to yet another level. With the world-famous Queen Mary docked in the background, Pastrana will jump his rally car off the Pine Street Pier onto a floating barge anchored in Long Beach’s Rainbow Harbor, aiming to shatter the existing mark of 171 feet and establish a new world distance record, live on ESPN.

Jumping a car takes guts enough, but add water between the ramps, and Pastrana will feel what most, if not all, golfers feel when faced with hitting a ball over water – stay out of the water! On New Year’s Eve, Travis is not only the golfer, but also the golf ball!

THREE’S COMPANY

Pastrana will follow in the footsteps of fellow motorsports athletes Robbie Maddison and Rhys Millen, who rang in the last two New Year's Eve celebrations by pushing their physical, mental and technical limits to break boundaries and records, in front of thousands of fans in Las Vegas and millions of viewers on ESPN.

For Red Bull: New Year.

The US Open is one of the most competitive races of the year. On night one there were more elbows being thrown than in a UFC fight, and you can bet with 100 grand on the line the riders were willing to give it all for the win.

The first night of the US Open revealed changes in not only the lineup but the format as well. A new component in the two-night event was added which gave the riders an opportunity to earn more points towards their two-night racing total. Head-to-head racing was placed in the program. This was comprised of the top 10 finishing riders from timed practice. Racers were pitted against one another in a one-on-one, single lap race. The winner of each head-to-head race was awarded one point to their two-night racing totals. This was on top of the heat, semi, and LCQ format.

Before the racing got underway I had the chance to catch up with Roger DeCoster.

What are your expectations for your team tonight?
"We are kind of running a reduced team, and I only have one rider [Michael Byrne]. He is coming back from a pretty big crash in Italy at the Motocross of Nations, I am just happy he is riding the event. I really don't know how he is going to do tonight."

For the coming Supercross season have you signed any riders yet?
"We are still working on riders right now and I can't say who we will end up with for sure but we will probably end up with Austin Stroupe on the Lites bike, but I don't know what we will do for the next 450 rider."

Las Vegas is a race that really allows riders the opportunity to size each other up before they hit A1. Despite any preconceived notions as to who may have the best set up, Vegas is also a race that is known to put a wildcard on the podium. One such potential wildcard is Nick Wey.

What is your opinion of the race format for tonight?
"I was unaware of the new format prior to getting here but it should be cool. I think it will be okay. I have been riding quite a bit, but the track is so tight I don't know how it will go."

With Chad Reed out of the running tonight can we expect to see you on the box?
"Chad Reed? Bring them all back I'll be on the podium. It all depends on the start I get. If I have things going for me it will be good."

A new exhibition introduced to the US Open format is FMX. I was able to catch up with Mike Mason to get his thoughts on the event.

What can we expect to see from you tonight?
"It will be a good show, you can expect to see a few backflips, some cool tricks I may want to surprise you a bit."

What is your favorite part about being in Las Vegas?
"Definitely the women, the ladies. There are good women in Vegas. I can sit here and look at all the ladies passing by. There are a lot of things going on in Vegas after the race, it's fun."

Who would you like to see win the race tonight?
"Maybe Chad Reed, is he racing? Byrne, I like him. Oh and RV he has a red beard and likes hunting that's pretty cool. Nick Wey too, he's a cool dude. Like when I was racing he was the dude I looked up to."

As the opening ceremonies progressed the tension rose and riders put their game faces on. The new head to head racing was something riders and fans alike had never seen before. Here's how the matches played out:

Bowers vs. Byrne – Winner: Bowers
Blose vs. Siebler – Winner: Blose
Hansen vs. Reardon – Winner: Reardon
Hahn vs. Stewart – Winner: Stewart
Millsaps vs. Villopoto – Winner: Villopoto

Davi Millsaps took the first place position in heat two and had a few things to say about the win, "I feel good especially coming off of a horrible season, winning is nice and I just hope to carry that out into the main."

Does this give you more confidence going into the main?
"Yeah I know I am second fastest but it's the 20 laps that are a whole new race."

Do you think you could beat James in the main?
"James is definitely beatable. You just have to rise to his level. His level is his stupid bubba scrubs and the stupid jumps he does (said jokingly) and just his pace the whole 20 laps and to do that, you have to step up your game, and hopefully before A1 I can do it."

The Mechanic's challenge was yet another component added to the US Open racing format. The winning mechanic would earn one point for his team's overall points total. Davi Millsaps mechanic took the prize on night one and needless to say Davi was thrilled.

Semis and LCQ's played out to create a main event lineup including fourteen riders Stewart, Millsaps, Villopoto, Hansen, Reardon, Bowers, Byrne, Siebler, Casillas, Blose, Boni, Craig, Goerke and Wey.

In the main event all bets were off. The gates were down and James was on the move. James pulled an early lead followed then by Millsaps and Reardon. The single-lined track made it difficult to pass, this was advantageous to riders who started in the front and allowed them to gain distance on the rest of the pack behind them. James made his way across the finish with Millsaps, Reardon, Goerke and Craig in tow.

Dan Reardon was particularly ecstatic about his finish. Reardon explained how it felt to make it on the box, "This is my budget for next year! It was a long time coming. It felt good I had to stay collected out here. It felt really good. I am looking forward to tomorrow and a new challenge so we'll see how it goes."

With Stewart leading in points from night one it looked as though night two would be another sweep for the number one L&M Yamaha. Although, the Kawasaki contender Ryan Villopoto had other plans in mind. Despite a discouraging start on night one RV brought a whole new deck of cards to the table, and gave the crowd what they had been eagerly awaiting, a real race!

Ryan Villopoto explained what happened on night one.
"I got a good start but locked bars with Reardon going into the first corner, so I ended up getting a bad start. Then I started working my way back up through the pack and around the eighth lap I clipped a tefloc and bent my shifter all the way back to my foot peg. That was it."

What does it feel like to be back on the track?
"It was a last minute decision and my reason behind it was so I wouldn't show up at Anaheim without racing all summer. It feels good to be back."

There has been a lot of talk at this race in particular of Chad being on the team next year. What are your thoughts?
"He has been riding the bike, his deals not signed yet. I'm assuming it is gonna be, I think it can be good and bad. A benefit because I'll be able to ride with him and learn from him."

Throughout the day a lot of news was storming through the pits as to who will be riding where. There is no way to get a concrete quote from anyone until pen touches paper, although it seems as though Hansen has made plans with Monster Energy Pro Circuit for the coming season. Josh Hansen has a history of doing well at side races (think US Open, X Games) but fails to seal the deal in a series race.

I ran into Josh Hansen in the pits before the racing started and he detailed last night's racing and his plans for this year. "I came off the start on Davi and I think me and Searle got together and I clipped the side of the jump and it put me to the ground there was nothing I could do. I got back up and finished and went back down. It's one of those main events you gotta put behind you."

Where are you looking to finish tonight?
"I'm hoping to do good and finish good. It's one of those tracks where anyone can do good because the track is so easy and it's so small. There's not really anything you can do I just need to be consistent."

People have put you under a one hit wonder category, at races such as X- Games your great but when it comes to SX you seem to fall behind, can you explain that?
"I think the situation I was in was a difficult one. I really have nothing to say to that. I can only prove myself again, I'll have to."

Will you be at A1?
"Definitely, there to choke [joking]."

What are your plans for the supercross season?
"I will be riding for Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki. It's a done deal."

Since you're now on the Pro Circuit team have you started putting any hours in at the test track?
"We just got the deal done with Pro Circuit the night before I came here so not yet. Next year we start riding and testing and going in that direction, when I get back home it will be on."

After watching the head-to-head racing many fans agreed that it was a great addition to the evening program. The dynamics of racing for an individual point that may make the difference in overall finish made things all the more exciting. Here's how the second round of head-to-head match-ups played out:

Stewart vs. Wey – Winner: Stewart
Villopto vs.Byrne – Winner: Villopoto
Blose vs. Reardon – Winner: Blose
Kiniry vs. Millsaps – Winner: Millsaps
Lusk vs. Hansen – Winner: Hansen

Following the head-to-head racing were rounds of competitive heats. After a bout of semis and LCQ's it was time for the long awaited main event. Most expected Stewart to once again easily take the win. Much to the contrary Stewart got off to a shaky start. Dan Reardon pulled the holeshot with RV hot on his tail. Villopoto passed Reardon and led the pack. Without Stewart in front of him Villopoto seemed to maneuver the bike effortlessly through the rhythm and also appeared to be riding more confidently than anytime he had prior exhibited throughout the evening. It didn't take long for James to catch up and despite a round of back-and-forth passing and leading Stewart eventually took the lead.

It didn't take long after Stewart settled into a grove before Villopoto backed it off a notch and started riding a bit more conservatively. It was obvious that Villopoto made the mature decision to settle into a second spot on the podium instead of going all-out with Stewart for the remainder of the race. Behind Villopoto was a battle between Reardon, Millsaps and Byrne. Millsaps and Byrne made their way throughout the pack and Millsaps seized the opportunity to pass Reardon and take third overall. Here are the results:

1) James Stewart
2) Ryan Villopoto
3) Davi Millsaps
4) Dan Reardon
5) Michael Byrne
6) Matt Boni
7) Nick Wey
8) Ezra Lusk
9) Tyler Bowers
10) Chris Blose
11) Bobby Kiniry
12) Tiger Lacey
13) Keith Johnson
14) Josh Hansen
15) Robbie Reynard

I was able to catch up with Stewart after the event, here's what he had to say about the racing.
"It's always good to win. It's my first time being back in five months and I'm just happy. I'm happy to debut the bike, I'm happy to win, I'm back to my normal self I feel great."

Can you tell us what happened at the start?
"Yeah I was holding, they held the gate long, I blinked and the gate was down. Just something I need to get dialed in and I'll be good to race in a couple months."

When you have to work your way from the back is there ever any doubt as to whether or not you'll be able to work through it?
v "I always give myself the chance, I always believe when it comes down to making stuff happen I'm the guy to do it. Ryan was riding good tonight, he was putting some hot laps in but when I start going, getting in my rhythm I just start knocking it down, I never doubt myself and I definitely gave him a run for his money."

So that's how the chips fell in Vegas, and congratulation to James Stewart on taking home the win!

San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., won the opening night of the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena tonight and moved one step closer to cashing in on the $100,000 purse.

Stewart, who is the defending race champion, opened the main event with the holeshot and led all 20 laps en route to the win. GEICO Powersports Honda's Dan Reardon, of Murrieta, Calif., started in second and was passed near the halfway mark by Honda Red Bull Racing's Davi Millsaps, of Tallahassee, Fla.

"I am just happy to get out here and race tonight," said Stewart. "There is a lot of work that I have to do, but the bike worked great tonight. This is always a fun event and I am excited to be a part of it."

Monster Energy/Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., suffered a mechanical failure and did not finish the race. Millsaps finished second and Reardon finished third.

"This is an important race for me," said Reardon. "I look forward to tomorrow night's race. I put myself in a great position heading into tomorrow night, so we will see what happens."

"I didn't get the start that I wanted tonight," said Millsaps. "I had a lot of tough guys to pass out there and I am glad to finish well and show the team that I am ready."

Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo jumped out to an early lead in the Alpinestars 85cc Mini Invitational and was challenged early by fellow Kawasaki rider Chris Allredege.
James Stewart, who rides for the San Manuel Yamaha race team, swept both nights of racing to win his third Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open tonight inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena and took home $100,000.

GEICO Powersports Honda's Dan Reardon, of Murrieta, Calif., won the holeshot before being passed by Monster Energy/Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., later in lap one. Villopoto took advantage of Stewart's poor start and opened up a big lead while Stewart began working his way through the field.

On lap four, Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., quickly passed Reardon and set his sights on Villopoto. Stewart and Villopoto traded positions on lap 10 as Stewart moved into the lead and rode off to the win. Honda Red Bull Racing's Davi Millsaps, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed Reardon for third place on the second to last lap.

"It was a fun race," said Stewart. "I didn't get the start that I wanted but I got the job done. The money is one thing but our team works really hard so this is rewarding for them. I was able to put in some really strong laps after I made my way around (Dan) Reardon."

Chris Alldredge pushed his Yamaha to tonight's moto win in the Alpinestars 85cc Mini Invitational and the overall championship. Alldredge, who finished second last night, opened a big lead over last night's winner Adam Cianciarulo. On the final lap, Cianciarulo pulled up to Alldredge's back wheel, but was unable to pass him.

"I tried to get the best start I could," said Alldredge. "Last year I came into this race and didn't do that well. I learned how to ride the whoops a lot better so I will be more comfortable when I race supercross."

"I got hit off the start and came out almost dead last; it was hard to work through the pack," said Cianciarulo. "I tried my best and tried to make up time where I could. I will be back next year."

Saturday Night Open Class Results
1. James Stewart, Yamaha
2.

Josh Hill has been a tough guy to find as of late. When the curtains drew on the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Hill found himself in 25th place, overall. Injury sidelined him for much of the season, but even when he was on-track, things didn't seem right.

We caught up with him to see what he's been up to.

Where have you been lately Mr. Hill?
I've basically been getting healthy, my back was worse than anyone thought or would have wanted to think. I had three herniated disks and a pinched nerve, my ankle was still messed up and my shoulder still wasn't 100%. I have been getting fixed up and now I definitely feel like it's time to get out there and race again. I'm ready. I've been riding a stock Yamaha and really putting my hours in.

With JLaw out of the picture (a'hem, in jail!), will we see a new JHill?

Is it true you will be with L&M next year?
NO, I can't say it won't happen but as of now nothing is set in stone. I'd really like to be, and we've been talking but we'll just have to see how everything goes. I think it would be a great place to be, especially because I'd be on a Yamaha, which is where I've been since I was 10 years old.

So you're not going to make it to the US Open, would it be safe to say we'll see you at Anaheim?
Oh for sure, if I have to buy my own bikes I'll be at Anaheim. I feel like I have more to offer than I've showed anyone. I've only won one race and I won't be sleeping tonight knowing I've only won one, when I could have won more.

Do you feel like your approach to this season has changed at all in comparison to last season?
Definitely. I've wanted nothing more than to go in and win. This past season there really weren't any races where I was at the top of my game, due to my injuries. I love racing but no matter how hard I trained my injuries just kept getting worse. Now that those issues are resolved I'm ready to get out there and race again.

Where do you see yourself ranking in the upcoming Supercross season?
Top three in the championship is where I want to be. I've ridden with James and when he's on his game no one can beat him he's just on a different level, but if I'm healthy, like I am now there is no reason why I shouldn't be there. I definitely want to be on the box.

Looking back how do you feel about the past few seasons leading up to this point in your career?
It's all been a learning experience. I've figured out that I have a lot more to show than I've shown. I need to get on that, and right now this is my last year to prove how good I am. I don't have much time and I'm not going to blow it. I've made a lot of changes and I'm in my best shape, I'm ready to go out and race.

Thanks for your time Josh.
Thanks

(Merced, CA) - Every year Fox Racing rewards their motocross team with a group vacation for a job well done. This year the Fox Wake Team took it upon themselves to show the MX Team some love. Fox MX Team Riders Brett Metcalfe, Jeff Emig, Ricky Carmichael, Ivan Tedesco, Daniel Reardon and Trey Canard met Todd Hicks, the Fox Brothers, Shaun Murray and Chris Bischoff in Lake Shasta, California for a weekend of wakeboarding and wakesurfing behind a Malibu Boats Wakesetter VLX.

Todd Hicks, Fox Wake Team Manager, explained the tradition of the team trip and the motivation for this year's outing. "We have visited Hawaii a couple of times with the athletes. MX Team has enjoyed surfing with the world's best surfers, so this year we wanted to give back from our wake team side. Our Fox Team managers wanted to let the MX crew enjoy some wakeboarding."

Hicks put the call into Malibu Boats requesting the big wakes of the Wakesetter VLX. That's why he had the chore of boat pick-up, but he was excited to do it. Even more excited once he saw the boat. "I went ahead and picked it up from the factory on our way to Shasta. My mouth dropped as I approached the Malibu Factory. There was the sickest looking boat sitting out front of the place. I thought there was no way that was the boat we were going to use. Sure enough, I was told this was our boat." Hicks added, "I about passed out!"

Even on a fun, relaxing weekend after a grueling year of supercross and outdoor motocross, the Fox MX Riders couldn't fight their need for more competition. They went head-to-head behind the Wakesetter VLX trying to one-up each other with wakeboard moves. So Bisch and Murray acted as judges in this impromptu wakeboard competition. Bisch said, "They got so into it!"

The Fox MX Team received VIP treatment at Lake Shasta for their reward trip. Fox provided the Malibu Boats 2009 Wakesetter VLX as well as all the gear the guys needed to wakeboard and wakesurf. They stayed in a four level houseboat fully stocked for the trip and by every account a good time was had by all.

To check out the Wakesetter VLX, the same wakeboard boat the Fox MX Team rode behind, visit your nearest Malibu Boats Dealer. Or take a cyber trip the Malibu Boats Family of web sites.

There will also be special recognition given to Clayton John (retired ABA President) and Bernie Anderson (retired ABA Chairman of the Board), current BMX Hall of Fame members, for their recent induction into the U.S. Bicycling Hall Of Fame in Davis, CA .

“It is a great honor to induct these individuals into the National BMX Hall of Fame and it is only appropriate that these individual's accomplishments will be highlighted for future generations in the BMX Hall of Fame” stated B.A. Anderson, American Bicycle Association's (www.ababmx.com) CEO.

INDUCTEES FOR CLASS OF 2009:

Danny Oakley: Danny began organized BMX racing in 1970 and retired in 1981. He was instrumental in establishing organized BMX racing, and numerous tracks in Southern and Northern California, during a time when organized BMX did not formally exist. A few such tracks are The Downhill Track of Baldwin Park in 1970, Landels Park, Hamann Park and The Downhill Track of Mount Tamalpais in 1974. Danny Oakley, a true Legend of our sport, raced for such legendary teams as Bikette & Dirtmaster, Rick`s Bike Shop, Silver Shield, MotoPRO, Speedo and Mongoose. He was instrumental in forming Pro Products, Inc., MotoPRO and Speedo. Moreover, Danny was instrumental in designing product for Pro Products, Inc., MotoPRO, Speedo, B.M.X. Products, Inc., and Mongoose, including the infamous Moosegoose, a 20 inch BMX race frame Danny designed for taller riders and racers (Danny is quite tall himself). He has conducted BMX Racing Clinics and Demonstrations in the United States and in Europe . He has participated in NBA, UBR, NPSA, CBA and ABA sanctioned races. Danny raced and won numerous titles and championships, such as 4-Time West Coast Champion, 6-Time Northern California Champion, NPSA National Champion and NORA CUP, to name a few. Danny was one of the racers that were featured in the BMX episode of CHiPs.

Jeremy McGrath: Often referred to as "MC", "Showtime", and "The King" (meaning the "King of Supercross"), Jeremy is the winningest Supercross racer ever, winning seventy-four 250cc Main Events and capturing seven 250cc Championships between 1993 and 2000. He also earned twelve AMA Motocross titles, 2 Motocross Des Nations titles, and an X-Games Gold Medal and Bronze Medal in his career. As a young boy he began racing BMX and became one of the leading BMX racers in the nation and even had a "factory" ride with VDC. At the age of 15, McGrath decided to try his luck at BMX`s big brother, motocross, where he was able to translate many of the racing skills he had mastered throughout his years of racing BMX. After just three years riding as an amateur, McGrath made his AMA debut in 1989 and the rest, as they say, is history. Throughout all his fame and success in motocross, Jeremy always kept his BMX roots. He worked with GT bicycles and even had a complete BMX bike dubbed the "Showtime" model.

D.D. Leone: Born Dominick Donald Leone Jr., but better known in the BMX world as "D.D.", he began racing in 1980, at the age of 14 years old. From Louisiana , D.D. was known as the original "Ragin` Cajun" and helped put Louisiana and the Southeast on the BMX map. He raced for over 12 years, participating in over 2000 races and won or placed in 1300. Like most racers, he started off racing for local shops. His determination and winning ways on the national scene got him some much needed recognition and before long he was hooked up by Redline with a "Factory" sponsorship 1982. Later in his career, he rode for Free Agent and Kastan. D.D. was always in the hunt for the ABA Pro Cruiser title. He officially retired from BMX and is currently working and living in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. He is also involved with the local BMX scene in Louisiana helping out at ABA `s Gretna BMX track.

Troy Lee: Troy was a long time motocross racer that started Troy Lee Designs in 1981 by following in his father's footsteps of helmet painting. Troy first worked with BMX racer Dave "Custom Cully" Cullinan by custom painting his helmets. This led to Troy working with many of the top BMX pros around the world. Troy expanded his business from helmet painting to helmet manufacturing in the mid 90`s, with the "Edge" helmet being the first. Then in 1998, Troy launched a full apparel line. Today, his business has grown from helmet painting to one of the top brands in the industry. Troy Lee Designs now has a catalog that spans over 50 pages of product, including the innovative bicycle helmet, the D2, and a line of protective gear. Troy enjoys working with "the world's fastest racers" from F1 to Indy Car to NASCAR, Motocross to Enduro to Freestyle, Dirt Track to Road Racing, MTB to BMX, and everything in between. Troy `s main goal is to make and design the best products in the world for the "the world's fastest racers".

R.L. Osborn & Mike Buff: Although they are best known as the "Godfathers of Freestyle", both R.L. and Buff got their start as BMX racers. At age 11, R.L. was part of the first ever "BMX test team" for Bicycle Motocross News (from late `75 to late `76). An entrepreneur at the early age of 14, R.L. started up his own company, Hot Stickies. As the son of BMX Hall of Famer, Bob Osborn, R.L. went on to become one of the main test riders for BMX ACTION magazine. In 1978, R.L. teamed up with fellow BMXA employee Bob Haro to form the very first freestyle team, which made its debut at ABA `s Winternationals in Chandler , AZ. Local Torrance hot-shoe racer Mike Buff joined the BMX ACTION test team in 1979. Buff soon crossed over to freestyle and in the absence of Haro, the longtime teaming of R.L. & Buff began. As the "Nerd herd", R.L. & Buff were vital in setting BMX trends during the 80`s, from jumping styles in bike tests to the 4x4 vehicle craze, to clothing fashions and hairdos. Each year from `82 until `88, the BMX ACTION trick team (as well as R.L.`s later sponsorship with Redline and General) spread the BMX gospel. In all, R.L. and Buff took their annual Summer Tours to 48 states in the U.S. and over 15 countries, taking BMX to places where racers and tracks couldn't, turning many kids on to BMX in one form or another.

Eddie Fiola: Eddie is a true legend in BMX and arguably the best rider to EVER ride a skatepark. Eddie is credited with being the first rider to do a 540 in a pipe. Eddy won four " BMX Action Nora Cup" awards and five " King Of The Skatepark" titles. At the time, the " King Of The Skatepark" competitions were as big in the freestyle world as the X-Games and Dew Tour are today. In the early days, Eddie was sponsored by Bottema Forks, SE Racing, Haro, and Premier Helmets. At the end of 1982, Eddie was hired by Kuwahara to design, ride, and promote the E.T. Freestyle bike. Eddie was also the man behind one of the most famous freestyle bike designs to this day, the GT PRO Performer. It is rumored that the movie "RAD" was loosely based on the life story of Eddie Fiola. Although Eddie did not play the main character, he was a stunt double in the movie. Today, Eddie works in the movie industry as a stunt man and is credited with working on such great movies as The Italian Job, Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Dukes of Hazard, just to name a few.

Riding for KTM gives you a large stable of bikes to choose from and you consistently pick the 400 over the more popular 450 or 250 2-stroke, what's the reason for that?
I like the power of the 400 and the way it runs. I have always liked four-stroke motorcycles better – I feel they have better traction on the ground. The reason I choose the 400 over the 450 is for a lighter bike. The 450 would wear me out quicker in a race than the 400 will.

Enduro racing has seen a lot of changes to it's structure in the last few years to try to make it more accessible to the average rider, do you feel these rule changes have been for the better of the series?
For sure, we had 600 rider’s compete in the first couple National Enduro rounds, which is a huge increase for the series. The format is still an enduro with the same aspects; it is just better managed with higher attendance. It is a shame all of the positive changes came while the economy is in a downturn. It would be great to get more support for the other riders from the other motorcycle manufacturers. At this time KTM is the only one still heavily involved in the series.

Along with the rule changes they have also been scheduling more rounds on the West Coast than normal with rounds in Wyoming and Montana this year, do you feel this is a positive change for the series?
Yes, I think since it is a national series the races should be equally split between the coasts. However, it is hard to add new races as many of the clubs on the west coast lack the organization to host a national enduro race. The only downfall of the farther travel is for the amateur riders which struggle to pay their way to each round. I think if we move forward with more west rounds they may need to throw in a couple of throw-away races for the amateurs to help the series.

Earlier in your career you raced both GNCC's and Enduros and had quite a bit of success in both, but in the last few years you have concentrated primarily on Enduros, why did you decide to stick to one discipline?
I was getting hurt a lot more when I raced both – so I decided to focus on one. I think my body was getting beat up doing too much too fast. I wanted to race a lot longer and knew I needed to focus on one series in order to do so. I decided to stick with the National Enduro Series since I had more fun racing that series, however, you might see be back at a few GNCC races in the future.

It is nearly impossible to open an issue of Cycle News without reading the name Lafferty in the results for an Enduro somewhere on the East Coast, why has your family become so dominant on the Enduro scene?
We grew up racing the east coast all the time. My dad and brothers are heavily involved in local series. There is always something going on and we like to be involved. We are just a family that loves racing and that is why you see either one of my brothers, my dad or my nephews name in the paper quite often.

For the past few years, your teammate Russell Bobbitt and yourself have had some tight battles for the Enduro championship with Russell being able to come out on top of a couple, something that pretty much no one else has been able to do over the last decade, how is it racing so closely with your teammate all the time?
Russell is a kid 10 years younger than I and is definitely going to take over the reigns soon but I am still having fun competing with him. As a my teammate and competitor it is nice knowing that it is up to us and not what he may have better on his bike than me – because we have the same opportunity available to us. Of course, I like to win but I am happy for him too and when I retire I hope that I will do so after being able to help him and teach him everything I can about being a champion. He has a lot of great years ahead of him and I wish the best for him.

You've been at this for awhile, racking up a record-tying 8 titles along the way, how much longer go you see yourself racing at the top level?
I have always told myself I would like to race until I am 35. So I am hoping to have at least another good two years left. However, if I am still competitive at that point I might go a little longer – we will just have to wait and see.

Thanks for your time, Mike
Thanks.

Related Reading

Interview: David Kamo - Factory KTM

Photos: KTM Adventure Rally

Speed Technologies has just made off-road racing a lot easier. The company, a leading team in the SuperLite Championship series, has launched a rental program that puts drivers behind the wheel of one of its fleet of SuperLite trucks, while removing the logistical nightmare of race support, heavy start-up costs and post-race shop time.

“Arrive and Drive” offers racers and aspiring racers a ready SuperLite truck delivered for race weekend with on-site crew and support. Drivers need only jump behind the wheel and hit the gas.

“Basically, this is designed for someone who doesn’t want to mess with the truck,” said Kevin Singleton, chief operating officer of Speed Technologies. “We take the hassle out of it – we’ve got it down where drivers can show up, drive and leave when the racing is finished.”

Nearing the end of its first season of rental program, Speed Technologies said its fleet of five trucks has been in high demand in 2008. “We started this in April,” Singleton said, “but even starting late for the season we’ve been selling out races, and we’re booked through the end of the year.”

And the program has already attracted big-name racers, like Andrew Comrie-Picard, the X Games competitor best known for his dominance in the rally circuit. “As someone coming from another racing discipline, I know how important preparation is,” he said, “and with Speed Technologies everything is ready to go, the trucks are very well built and the crew is awesome.”

Although the driving style took some getting used to, Comrie-Picard placed third in his first SuperLite race. And he plans to run the truck again before the season is over. As for the future of the SuperLite class in the series, he likes the affordability.

“The truck is balanced and easily manageable, and the value of money in this series is awesome,” Comrie-Picard said. “I have sponsors, but this is a style of racing that anyone can get into without too much investment.”

Comrie-Picard’s experience racing SuperLite is typical. Singleton said he expects the bulk of the fleet in 2009 to go to racers who will reserve them for all seven series races.

“If You’re on the outside of this style of racing looking in, this is just about the only way to walk on and get a full racing experience without too much preparation or cost,” Singleton said. “Plus you get all of the benefits of racing in the SuperLite Championship – visibility for sponsors, TV time, etc.”

For single-race SuperLite rentals, racers pay a fixed $7,500. For the season (seven races), the cost is $52,500.

What racers get:
• Fully prepared SuperLite Race Truck, delivered to the race venue ready for Friday qualifying, and Saturday and Sunday racing
• Professional pit assignment
• Race crew, including a designated chief and spotter
• All race support equipment
• Hospitality for driver and one guest
• Signage for personal sponsors (limited to established space)
• One set of race tires
• Race fuel
• Inclusion in series marketing and promotions
• Inclusion in Lucas Oil Off Road Racing television coverage
• Inclusion in SuperLite television series

* Drivers must provide their own Lucas Oil-approved race suit and helmet, and are responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear.

The SuperLite Championship series is held at venues in California, Arizona and Nevada. Drivers compete for a portion of $80,000 in prize money over the course of the series.

For more information visit www.superlitechampionship.com/Arrive___Drive.html

KTM Factory Hare & Hound rider David Kamo was also present and gave a mini-riding school for interested KTM riders.

Saturday night’s awards dinner honored the rider who traveled the farthest distance on his motorcycle to attend the event which was given to Gregor Halenda traveling from New York state. Steve Berde, at age 70, was the oldest rider in the group and was honored with the Vintage Rider award. Canada’s Blair Murray took home the coolest tech gadget prize with the addition of an air-horn to his KTM 990 Adventure. The hard luck award went to Brad Tawzer who had an unfortunate issue with a leaking container of gas during one of his rides. The final award gave recognition to the participant with the most miles on their bike which was handed out to Craig Johnson and his KTM odometer totaling 52,700 miles.

The KTM Adventure Rider Rally is the only national festival for KTM owners and enthusiasts. This year’s rally offered unbelievable adventure riding opportunities, games and more. The KTM Adventure Rider Rally travels from east to west coast each year and will return to the east for the 2010 adventure.

For more information on other KTM experiences please visit www.ktmusa.com.

Photos

Typical motocrosser, Editor Worden packs about $20,000 worth of toys
in the back of a $3,000 truck.

Plenty of room to roam in Idaho, is this off-road heaven?

Two wins this year and a 12 point lead going in to the final 3 rounds, how do you feel about your year so far?
It is always hard to judge your speed after a long break like we have had – but I still feel confident and am ready to give it my all at the next round.

You have been working at this racing thing for quite a while now, working your way up through the ranks from a top amateur, to a top 10 guy to a top 5 guy and now this year you have put it all together and are winning some races finally, what has allowed you to just keep getting better year-after-year?
I have always been a more cautious rider and I don’t really ride over my head – I think that is part of the reason for it taking me longer to be on the top of the podium. I tend to be rather consistent and I hope to race for another 10 years or longer and if I keep progressing at the rate I have been I should do well.

Through the years you have raced in almost every form of off-road racing including WORCS, Hare and Hounds, Hare Scrambles, Best in the Desert, ISDE, World Enduros and you even had some success at Red Bull Last Man Standing, how does a kid from the Idaho desert become such a versatile rider?
I just try to ride everything – whether it is raining, snowing or if it is just plain hot and dry I ride. I like to ride where I need improvement the most which I feel really helps me in becoming a more versatile rider. However, I am still scared of trees!

Up until the last 2 years it seems like you have raced pretty much anywhere you can on the West Coast, pretty much being on the road every weekend, is it nice to be able to take a step back a little and just concentrate more on desert racing or do you miss being at the races all the time?
At first it was nice to have a big break and have some time off – but sometimes with the break I feel like I might be getting slower and I miss being at the races. For 2010, I plan to race more during the long break in the Hare & Hound Series - possibly some WORCS rounds.

This October you are once again headed to the ISDE as the captain of the Junior Trophy team, what's your expectations for the ISDE this year?
We have a really competitive team this year. I am really pumped to go because we know we have a great chance of doing well. We obviously expect to finish at the top. We are all determined to work together to meet this goal.

Thanks for your time, David.

Thanks.
