Andrew is one of the main guys over at the ShredTown. Andrew was in town for a week after their road trip to Orlando,FL. Andrew will be officially part of the Slingshot team this upcoming year.

PW: What is the best thing about riding for slingshot?

AA: I really like the board and the construction that makes it bombproof. The bottom of the board has no bottom features and I can slide anything.

It has been a formidable tour every year now for five years and the lives and reputations of a rider's street cred are pinned squarely on taking the crowning title. Every year new aspiring street kings rise from all walks of life and meet together for what is now a very well-established meeting of the best shredders wakeboarding has to offer. The King of Winch tour

has started again this year and, with it's sister pro tour (Australian Pro Tour of Wakeboarding) taking a dive this summer due to the global financial crisis, winching stands tall as the only true testiment of all that is street tough.

Like its competitors the King of Winch tour tackles all issues large or small head on like a charging bull with the arrogance of a spitting camel. It proves that wakeboarding is no longer a sissy sport for people who have the privilage of owning a boat, but for anyone who wants to ride be it in a puddle or on a rail.

The true roots of the KOW were started in the very backyard of it's creator, Craig Mitchell's, house who literally dug a few holes and filled them up with water and added some rails to session. This dirty garage band-like approach to wakeboarding was exactly what wakeboarding was looking for and the riders who encompassed this new era stepped into the winching limelight like blowflies against a window trying to get through. The likes of Antony Colling, Troy and Scott Mackey, Brenton and Dwayne Priestley, Brant Hales, Chris O'Shea, Scotty Green and many others bashed their way over dirt and rail in what was the first big step in a huge direction of wakeboarding.

Now a few years on, it has been nothing but pleasure to watch these riders spread their winching wings and meet once again for the first round of the KOW tour that took place in the far north Queensland town of Mackay. What was even more impressive was to see some of the founding street tough crew still in the game at the most elite level with the skinniest scuffiest jeans you have ever seen.

Nothing was spared for the X Kings festival in Mackay and the names that rolled into town were nothing short of impressive. Reigning street KOW Brenton Priestley was, of course, back to defend his title as was his arch nemisis and closest competitor from last year, Troy Roker.

Original street tough crew member Troy Mackey had made his way up north from Melbourne and even Scotty Broome took time out of his busy schedule to throw some dice in the back alleyway, which was refreshing to see since Scott had been out of action due to knee injury for two years in a row. Throw into the mix Kiwi sensation and ghetto fab shredder Brad Smeele and newcomer from Harvey Bay 'backstreet' and there were always going to be sparks flying on the court.

Despite the smaller than anticipated crowd, there was no need to be uninspired because the way street rules play out it is never for the crowd and always for the credentials. During the practice sessions Brenton was beating out transfers from the kickers to the roof top rail in rapid succesion with backside 270 on and 270 off, Brad Smeele was hovering switch 270's to backlip over the transfer whilst Scotty Broome was boosting huge indy poked 180's over the entire 15m setup. Troy Roker had a mishap on the kicker when in the hot northern sun, which melted the kicker, he stuck to the up ramp and then slid across the whole staging area on his side causing considerable damage to his epidermous (skin), thus proving his utmost street cred.

The antics on the rail were just as hard as the parties off the rails due largely to the fact it was the first time in the Australian summer where the original gangstars got to meet up again before they spread out around the country for the following summer months. Despite hoarse voices from the karaoke bars and sore arms from silly games that forced the wrong-doer to drop and give 10 push ups at a moment's notice, the KOW went off without a hitch.

This year, though, be prepared for something a little different on the KOW tour because you know what they say, when you're onto a good thing……mix it up and change it so it doesn't get boring.

Expect to see the unexpected and keep your eyes glued to Wakelife TV for all the action. If you want to see it before anyone else, then subscribe to the Wakelife DVD and keep the memories close because this year is going to be one heck of a different King of Winch ride.

For those looking for results aside from sunburn, reigning KOW champion Brenton Priestley took top spot, followed closely by Scotty Broome with Brad Smeele bringing up the rear.

Urban Rider, keeping wakeboarding street tuff. Special thanks to H2OPIA, Urban Rider Cable and the crew from Hervey Bay.

Rathy goes bigger and spins faster then almost anyone. Rathy is a very talented wakeboarder and a force to be reckoned with.

We've heard your requests here at Company Wakeboards and it's our job to listen and give you what you want. Now with the new and improved CO CORE, you'll get more snap and life out of your board than ever before.

Severance Series Co Core features defined:

R.S.S. (Rail Stringer System) - Aspen Rail Stringers all laminated to 3-ply birch veneer, which provides for the ulitmate in pop and board response.

C.L.S. (Centerline Stringer) - Standard on all Company boards, provides tip to tail strength and creates that "lively" feel and generates "tons of pop." Available in both birch and aspen.

Co Wallz - Made of performance enhancing ABS, the Co Wallz create a smooth feel on the water and add 360 Degree Edge Protection. They are the strongest and lightest edge material available. ABS also protects from impacts and offers the rider a customizable rail shape. You can shape it to cut like a knife or bevel it for hang up free ride on rails. The possibilities are endless with the Co Wallz.

Co. Fins - While most brands try and save a buck on fins, we opted to provide one of the most durable fin materials available: Glass Filled Polyester, GFK for short. Extremely tough, and will hold up to almost anything you can dish out.

CNC Machined Core - Precision milled cores to ensure a "true fit" top to bottom, every time.

PMU Base - Strength to weight ratio is unmatched. Extremely durable and withstands even the hardest abuse. It just keeps going and it looks good too!

Stainless Steel Inserts - Individually placed hex-shaped inserts provide ultimate lock down, but still allow the board to flex naturally.

Six-inch Insert Spacing - Bindings tend to create "dead" spots, so the smaller the footprint, the better board control and response. In this case, less is more!

MADE IN THE U.S.A. - All of our boards are designed, built and tested in the USA. Go America!

$429 - Shipping Soon

Sean Kilgus is one of wakeboardings top videographers and is still changing the way things are done in the industry. Working with the sports top athletes Kilgus is able to produce some of the most influential videos of their time. His latest film DRIVE rivaled most films in quality and cinematography. Kilgus is currently filming a new video with Danny Harf and friends. The video will be documenting the progression of Danny Harf and Friends over the next year. Check out his website for a ton of videos and more info!

Sean Kilgus Interview

PW: Seems like you have been around the sport of wakeboarding forever with a camera in hand? How did you get started shooting?

SK:Haha...It does seem like forever sometimes. I actually started filming in college with some buddies of mine. We were heavy into our snowboarding and rode at a really cool mountain back home called Mt. Baker. There were a lot of good riders and we just wanted to document our riding at the time. We were always building booters and hiking out of bounds. I actually just found a bunch of my old DV tapes from around 2000-2004 of just old snow stuff. Every year after snowboarding was done, I was super excited to wakeboard and I just started meeting people locally like the The Ennen brothers and Danny Bergman up in Bellingham, Wa. The first rider I filmed was Brent Starr. He was the best rider around where I grew up and he was my hero back in the day. It was cool getting to work with him throughout the years in all my videos coming up.

PW: Working with the top athletes in the sport must really help the overall creative process. What’s it been like working with the legends of the sport?

SK:It has definitely been a great experience to work with riders like Danny Harf and others top notch riders like Rusty and Randall. Each one of these athletes has taught me a lot about what is important in their riding styles and have supported my creative growth throughout the years. I have always felt that the cast of riders in my films really shows how I perceive wakeboarding to be. Riders like Benny G and Randall can blow your mind one day and you feel like you just saw history in the making. The next day you go film double ups with Rusty and Danny and you just saw something totally different but just as awesome. I have also been humbled by the same riders and learned a lot about professionalism in this industry. I appreciate the athletes and all that they bring to my projects.

PW: You have shot a ton of videos. What's your most memorable one?

SK:I would say that The Butter Effect has always be the one that is the most memorable. That was the first time I learned how to shoot 16mm film. Gotta give Justin Stephen’s credit for helping learn in the beginning. Talk about patient. Haha. Justin is my hero. At the time of shooting BE, I was really trying to push myself and show the best riding at the time. I know that is the goal with every movie, but that was the first time that I got an opportunity to really push it creatively with the riders. They all got really involved and supported that movie. The Magazines did too. That was the most coverage for a movie I had ever received yet in my career.

PW: Can you tell us about your new DEFY movie based around Danny Harf and Friends?

SK:Danny and I have been kicking around the idea of doing a movie for a number of years. Being a caliber of rider like Danny, he always has a lot of very important projects and responsibilities to uphold every year. So we wanted to wait until we could truly focus and get the movie done right. The Teaser we released this summer was the first step. It turned out really good and I know Danny was pumped to follow through and see where we could take this project. The movie is based solely on progression of wakeboarding. Since Danny is such an innovator, his direction is endless. We basically just want to make a great film that best shows where he is at as a rider and where he sees wakeboarding today. That is why we have the “and Friends” to add to this progression. Our cast is growing and will include; Rusty Malinoski, Benny G, Kevin Henshaw, Shawn Watson, Shane and Parks, all the boys in Ronix for Radar session, the Fox team, and more. I don’t want to give away too much, but Danny and boys have by far surpassed expectations from last year already. Very exciting to see these riders influencing each other every time we film.

PW: You've used the film camera alot compared to most guys shooting everything digital. What makes you want to spend all the extra time, money, and hours working with film?

SK:Ya. That one. Well, its tough these days to justify the expense. When I started filming, I always gauged my abilities and accomplishments off of the great filmmakers before me like Ronn from Sidewayz, Justin Stephens of course, and for sure off of snowboarding films. These guys pushed it made me want to learn how to shoot film so I could earn their respect coming up. I think that it is a necessary skill to learn. You truly learn a lot more about what it takes to get a shot and why you need to think things through before you go the next set. Nowadays it’s not so important to shoot film it seems like. With so many new adapters and cameras out there. I am glad to know that when the time comes to shoot film this year, I know we can get what we are hoping to get.

PW: Your mostly known for shooting wakeboarding. What else have you pointed a camera at?

SK:Snowboarding was my first experience shooting and then into wakeboarding full time. For the past few years I have shot the whole Nautique boats product line and produced their webisodes and product DVD with Ryan Wolfe. I have always produced a ton of product videos for Hyperlite, Ronix, and some work for Body Glove. That has truly been a good eye opener for me as far as expectations and professionalism. I have shot a few local commercials and a lot of product based stuff. Oh ya. Some weddings. That’s the goods…haha

PW: You have any tips for a videographer who is trying to get into shooting action sports?

SK:The best advice I can give is to love what you do. You will always run into road blocks through every step of the way. It’s your ability to move past these tough spots and focus on why you are doing this stuff in the first place. I have a time every year that I call the dark month, where I am just burnt out and need a break and that is exactly what I have to do is go take a break. I find you can come back and have a clear and fresh perspective afterwards.

PW: Where can people see your recent work and keep updated on your progress with DEFY?

SK:I have been putting tons of new stuff on my website.www.bfyproductions.com We have a ton of behind the scenes stuff and teasers. It has been a gradual process over the last nine years or so. I had a stroke in 2000 when I was 18 and the artistic urge began to grow after that. I have tried to research the effect of strokes on the brain in regards to changes in creativity, but I believe for myself that blood clot that rocked the right side of brain sparked something, because I previously wasn't into art @ all. Then the process started slow with working with collages in journals, and working on paper. Eventually I began to work on canvas and different pieces of scrap wood, just trying out all kinds of methods, and techniques. I just started running with it truthfully, making work and enjoying the ride. I say keep experimenting, and follow your intuition, you'll be amazed @ what you can turn out sometimes. It's honestly my favorite way to spend a day..

PW: Has the creative environment of living at the projects and being close friend to pat ponakos affected your work?

BM:Pat and the Projects have been great in regards to affecting my work. I have been there for three years now, and I don't think I would have been able to make as much work as I have if it wasn't for that place. First off I am deeply in debt to Pat for his generosity, encouragement, and friendship over these past few years, and not to mention allowing me to use his wide array of power tools, that he has to make different surfaces and installations.. Buy Ridgid tools !! Also meeting so many other creative people that come out to the projects has been amazing. Of course all the riders and their own sense of creativity on the water, but also numerous other artists, photographers, and film makers. All these awesome people making it in life doing something they have passion for. 'Misfits live and breathe in an atmosphere of passion' (Saying on the first Projects t-shirt I designed)

PW: Can you explain your work? Its not your normal paintings.

BM:Umm.. I always seem to go back to the phrase 'character excursions' when describing the paintings. I really enjoy the stories behind people and events that take place in the everyday that shove the individual along the path of life. I am so curious about the mysteries behind people; where they came from, what makes them turn out the way they do. Everyone has a story, many as interesting as a hollywood movie, yet we worship a well known star while the guy you see riding a lawnmower down the sidewalk could have a much more interesting personal history. I like to let the viewers of the work find things that they can relate to, whether it's a picture, or a word, or color. I feel everyone can connect to the work in their very own way. Re-connecting to their personal memories..

PW: I know you use alot of different types of canvases. Whats the coolest canvass youve made into a piece of art.

BM:I usually tend to paint on wood because it's much more economical than canvas.. I can take a sheet of plywood for $20 bucks and build 6 or 8 big pieces where as one pre-stretched canvas can cost you $20 bucks. But I guess the coolest thing I made into art would probably have to be the road gap out @ the Projects.. The old lake to lake transfer from back in 2000 or 2001. I took a large canvas transfer and surrounded it with tons of scrap wood from various rail building experiments and built a giant wood juxtaposition. I had a great time making that one, although now two years later it's pretty dilapidated.. 'Alter Egos are Great'

PW: The large store front display you made for Urban Outfitters was a pretty large scale art piece. What was it like working on that size of work?

BM:I loved working on the window display for Urban Outfitters. I had been slowly working on these small wooden blocks, a homage of sorts to baseball cards. They were filled with all kinds of topics ranging from family photos, baseball logos, or Kennedy assassination newspaper clippings. They were more of an exercise to get working on a small scale, to kinda jump start the art making for the day, working out my own observations and interests. When I came across the opportunity to display @ Urban Outfitters I thought why not just expand on that idea of hundreds of various blocks of collage and paint. I cut up over two sheets of plywood into 4" x 6" blocks and went through the paper archives, pulling so many images from the past. Going in to set up that day was awesome, I just had all the supplies, an ipod, and no idea how I was gonna hang it all up. Just letting the composition come out. It only took about 8 hours...

PW: How do you get inspired for each different piece of art?

BM:Getting inspired always seems to be different. Sometimes it comes from seeing other peoples art. Like after I go to an art show, I can't wait to get home and start working on my stuff. Also sometimes from movies or just various patterns or typography you see in the world.. A lot of the time though it comes from the lapse of time of not doing art, and knowing that I have to get stuff done for various commitments, and getting stuff made to satisfy my own needs as well. I like this quote though from artist Chuck Close ' "Inspiration is for amateurs, the rest of us just show up and get to work"

PW: Where can people see your work and maybe purchase a piece?

BM:You can check out my work primarily on my website www.elus1v.com. I try to update it quite frequently as each piece is made, or after I have various shows. I also have an etsy store (elus1v.etsy.com) where you can purchase works...

Or just email me anytime and we can work something out..

PW: Wheres the next show or display your work will be showcased?

BM:I have a few different shows coming up.. I will have one piece in a group show called 'Life Essentials' which will be on display through the Art Whino Gallery @ Art Basel down in Miami. I also have a couple exhibitions @ venues in Orlando and Tampa and I will have a booth @ surf expo in January, which I'm particularly excited about.. Check out my website (http://www.elus1v.com) for updates and details... Thanks..

Rathy a former Natique boat team rider is now without a boat sponsor. No one knows the motives behind Natique dropping Rathy. The word on the street is Rathy contract came to an end this year and Natique did not sign him back. Rathy is on the top of his game and I am sure He will find a new boat sponsor soon.

Cypress, CA (October 20, 2009) – The squad at Vans is proud to announce the signing of pro wakeboarding icon Randall Harris to our footwear team. Hailing from nearby Huntington Beach, Harris, 27, started wakeboarding when he was 13 and has amassed an impressive track record including top finishes in the World Wakeboard Association (WWA) Tour, two Rider of the Year awards from Alliance Wakeboard Magazine and numerous groundbreaking video parts. Our new Bamcore is earth friendly using Bamboo sheets blended with PVC foam. It has a tensile strength and weight to strength ratio superior to steel, yet is light, flexible and resists compression. The Bamcore is wrapped in carbon for strength and weight savings. A huge center spine runs tip to tail on an otherwise clean and smooth nylon base. The beveled variable edge rail is also new; thin at the tips, thick in the middle. An aggressive continuous rocker and mid width delivers lift like you have only previously experienced in your dreams. Coming soon.

Labeled the biggest wakesurf contest in the world for a reason, the inscription saw the arrival of just under a hundred riders from across the globe with different categories for men, women and kids. Among them included professionals Chase Hazen from California and Dominic Lagacé from Québec, both demonstrating the best of what can be done behind the boat.

Thousands of spectators set up camp on the grass in front of the dock and were able to watch the event unfold while enjoying

the live music of DJ Radiomeuh and making the most of the giant tartiflette and the Teisseire bar. Great weather and a relaxed atmosphere welcomed the riders for Saturday's qualifying runs with local wakeboard school, Wake the Best, supplying the two Super Air Nautique 230's to pull them.

Sunday morning got underway with the semifinal stage and by that afternoon the top ten riders had sealed their spot in the final. With no division between surf and skim style, the big debate was which pro would be crowned king. It was eventually Shred Stixx rider Chase Hazen who came out on top getting the best out of the choppy conditions. Teammate Rebecca Ort won the women's and local rider Chris Bise won the overall tour concluding an epic summer and a great weekend.

Teisseire King of the Lake would like to thank Etnies, Correct Craft, Smith Optics, Liquid Force, Hyperlite, AFWS and Unleashed magazine for sponsorship.

Results

Open Men
1.

Huntington Beach, CA - Quiksilver is promoting superior wake sport performance and individual expression with their new custom wrapped Axis Wake Research A22 wakeboard boat. These two companies have partnered to further their shared objectives of expanding a rider's skill-set, pride and style regardless of budget. They plan to demonstrate this message by pulling distinctive pro rider Randall "The Vandall" Harris, behind the industry's fastest growing value-class big wake boat brand. Next season, look to catch a ride with the Quiksilver A22 and The Vandall on the water near you.

The Quiksilver/Axis Wake partnership came about the way many great joint ventures do - respected friends suggested the connection. Riding for both Quiksilver and Axis Wake Research, Vandall was informed of Quiksilver's desire to obtain a performance-centric wakeboard boat that provides a good value. Corey Marotta of Alliance MultiMedia was also aware of Quiksilver's quest for big wakes and style for a reasonable price. Both suggested the Axis A22 and the rest is history.

"We're stoked to see these two brands come together and honored to be the conduit. The A22 is one of the best performing values in the wake boat market and with Quiksilver's reach and brand history, this partnership offers both companies an amazing way to spread each of their messages. And at the center is Vandall," explained Marotta.

Adam McCall, Managing Director for Axis Wake Research, was excited to associate his new unique wake boat brand with a powerhouse like Quiksilver, but even more intrigued by the similarities in the two companies' objectives. "Quiksilver and Axis Wake Research share an energy for improving the experiences of the sports we love." McCall continued, "It's because of this mutual focus, that we look forward to collaborating on many projects within the board sports industry."

As one of the world's largest boardsport companies, Quiksilver is dedicated to providing the gear that helps riders discover individuality and progress in water sports. Axis Wake Research shares this same commitment while at the same time bringing pride to the entry-level wakeboard boat buyer with big wakes, styling and a low price.

Blake Choate, Quiksilver Wake Team Manager, had this to say about the new Quicksilver/Axis partnership, "I'm super hyped on the partnership between Quiksilver and Axis. Quiksilver being one of the biggest boardsport companies, we were looking to partner up with a boat company with the best value and best wake. Axis was that company. We also share one of the top athletes in wakeboarding, Vandall. This made the marriage of the two companies seamless."

It is this set of values that Quiksilver plans to demonstrate with Axis A22 and The Vandall on tour next summer. Stay tuned to Quiksilver's Mountain and Wave Blog for stop dates and details.

(Merced, CA) - Every year Fox Racing rewards their motocross team with a group vacation for a job well done. This year the Fox Wake Team took it upon themselves to show the MX Team some love. Fox MX Team Riders Brett Metcalfe, Jeff Emig, Ricky Carmichael, Ivan Tedesco, Daniel Reardon and Trey Canard met Todd Hicks, the Fox Brothers, Shaun Murray and Chris Bischoff in Lake Shasta, California for a weekend of wakeboarding and wakesurfing behind a Malibu Boats Wakesetter VLX.

Todd Hicks, Fox Wake Team Manager, explained the tradition of the team trip and the motivation for this year's outing. "We have visited Hawaii a couple of times with the athletes. MX Team has enjoyed surfing with the world's best surfers, so this year we wanted to give back from our wake team side. Our Fox Team managers wanted to let the MX crew enjoy some wakeboarding."

Hicks put the call into Malibu Boats requesting the big wakes of the Wakesetter VLX. That's why he had the chore of boat pick-up, but he was excited to do it. Even more excited once he saw the boat. "I went ahead and picked it up from the factory on our way to Shasta. My mouth dropped as I approached the Malibu Factory. There was the sickest looking boat sitting out front of the place. I thought there was no way that was the boat we were going to use. Sure enough, I was told this was our boat." Hicks added, "I about passed out!"

Even on a fun, relaxing weekend after a grueling year of supercross and outdoor motocross, the Fox MX Riders couldn't fight their need for more competition. They went head-to-head behind the Wakesetter VLX trying to one-up each other with wakeboard moves. So Bisch and Murray acted as judges in this impromptu wakeboard competition. Bisch said, "They got so into it!"

The Fox MX Team received VIP treatment at Lake Shasta for their reward trip. Fox provided the Malibu Boats 2009 Wakesetter VLX as well as all the gear the guys needed to wakeboard and wakesurf. They stayed in a four level houseboat fully stocked for the trip and by every account a good time was had by all.

To check out the Wakesetter VLX, the same wakeboard boat the Fox MX Team rode behind, visit your nearest Malibu Boats Dealer. Or take a cyber trip the Malibu Boats Family of web sites.

The world Cup Series is taking place in china this weekend and as the weekend draws closer wakeboarders are jumping on planes heading to china. At least 10-20 pro wakeboarders will be attending the world games in china this weekend. With a showing of every country involved in water sports it should be a great weekend to showcase the sport. The long flight to china is not too pleasant for some already I've heard. Facebook is supposably banned from china and most wakeboarders are facebook fanatics. So this week facebook will be short 10-20 people and my updates page will probably be stuck.

Among the 10-20 riders going to china is Andrew Adkison, Aaron Rathy, Kyle Rattary, Austin Hair and more. There even some women heading out to represent america. If this weekend is anything like the past America should have no problem bringing home the win. Its no secret that the best wakeboarders come out of America. Having the wakeboarder of the year and phoneme Aaron Rathy riding I am sure hell be a tough contender. Any news and results Ill be to sure to keep you all in the loop.

The new line of Slingshot boards for 2010 are amazing. Let me just tell you as unbiased as I am that slingshot is doing it right. When other companies are trying to add more foam, more channels, more fins, more bubbles in the bottom of the board for no reason slingshot is making their boards cleaner, simpler, and just indestructible.

Above is the new Reflex for 2010. Said to be the most progressive cable/ rail riding board on the market. The new FRT construction makes this board indestructible.
