Snowboarders; Helping The Image Of Skateboarders?

What's going on with these halfpipe snowboarders? They got this contest coming up that only happens every four years, as in the Winter Olympics, and they're dropping like flies. Ok, so the first one, Kevin Pearce, his accident happened in practice while attempting one of the hardest new moves in snowboarding. That comes with the territory, especially when you're pushing the limits of what can be done, and we all hope Kevin makes a full recovery.

Now, this last one involving Danny Davis, stuff like this is what you're going to have to get used to if skateboarding ever gets into the Olympics (lets hope this never happens). Ok, so let me get this straight, it was 3:30 AM, he had just won a contest, was leaving a house, and drove an ATV into a gate. If I know one thing, it's that if you're up after three and riding around on something with a motor, you were probably just up to no good. I know, I know, the Park City, or whatever mountain town he was in police department isn't going after him legally, but that doesn't mean there wasn't any partying going on. Take it from my boy Wardo, aka pro surfer, Chris Ward, he'll tell you all about how mountain town people stick together.

I'm not criticizing, I had a mishap a year or so ago, involving an open bar, a bar throw-out, an RV, and a failed bar re-entry attempt. Result; a foot injury, and some time in a cast. The only thing is, I was just in training for the Huntington Beach Tofu Dog Eating Contest, not the Olympics. And look at Mikey Phelps, at least he waited until after the Olympics to get his rage on, and didn't the guy who won the first snowboard event in Olympic history fail a drug test for weed. You know what, I hope they put skateboarding in the Olympics, and surfing. It's going to do nothing but give me material to write about. Trust me, they'll be a fair share of non-performance enhancing scandals.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I hope both these guys make full recoveries, and I know Pearce's injury is serious, and occurred while doing what he was going to be in the Olympics to do, the whole situation sucks.

Street League 2012: Nyjah Huston Wins Kansas City... Again

Street League's instant scoring allowed for the possibility of pressure-packed moments, but very few times did the skateboarders deliver

The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.

"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
