Top 10 Reasons Lebron Going To The Knicks Will Benefit Skateboarding

By: Tom Morin

All the talk in the basketball world lately, besides the playoffs, is whether or not Lebron James will go to the New York Knicks. If this happens it won't just affect basketball, it will have a major effect on the city of New York in general. The biggest name in basketball in the greatest city on earth; Lebron on Broadway. What does this have to do with skateboarding? Well, New York has a rich skateboarding history, and is the site of the first of two Maloof Money Cups this year, so it is safe to say skateboarding will feel the presence of King James in the King City. Here's 10 reasons why Lebron James going to New York Knicks will be good for skateboarding:

1. Skatetopia will be back to being the only the reason to go to Ohio.

2. I take that back, DNA Distribution is in Ohio, which is Alien Workshop and Habitat skateboards, so there are actually two reasons to go to Ohio.

3. Maybe Jay-Z will write another song so I'll stop having to hear that "I'm from New York" song at every skate contest I go to.

4. Going to a Knicks game will be something to do at night in NYC besides going to an art show, then getting on a good one and partying until last call, which in The Big Apple is 4 am.

5. We could have a battle of the Spikes in the NBA Finals. Skateboarding's Spike Jonze could hold it down for the Lakers, and super-fan Spike Lee could hold it down for the Knicks.

6. Maybe Jay-Z will stop trying to steal the Nets, which would be devastating to NJ pro skater, Fred Gall, and NJ Skateshop owner and legendary skate writer, Chris Nieratko. They're both die hard Nets fans, and New Jersey enthusiasts.

7. I heard Nike SB put in a favor to corporate to get Nike to insist part of Lebron's contract terms be to save THE NYC skate spot, the Brooklyn Banks.

8. Speaking of Nike SB, there could be cool collaboration between New York skate legend and Nike SB rider, Gino Iannucci, and Lebron for a limited edition pair of Dunks in Knicks colors.

9. During the Finals the skate world could have a NYC vs. LA thing. You know, Koston and crew vs. Steve Rodriguez and crew.

10. Every time I go to New York for a skate event I might not have to hear about the stupid Yankees as much.

Street League 2012: Nyjah Huston Wins Kansas City... Again

Street League's instant scoring allowed for the possibility of pressure-packed moments, but very few times did the skateboarders deliver

The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.

"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
