Elliot Sloan stuns skateboarding universe with first-ever tailgrab 900

By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com

Skateboarding history was made over the weekend when Elliot Sloan landed the first-ever tailgrab 900. He performed the extremely difficult maneuver, which involved spinning a 900-degree rotation while using one hand to reach back and grab the tail of his skateboard, on the mini-megaramp during the Maloof Money Cup in Kimberly, South Africa. Sloan not only won the best-trick competition, he became only the seventh skateboarder ever to land a 900 (check out the reaction of his peers in the video).

Among those Tweeting about the feat were Tony Hawk, who in 1999 became the first skateboarder to land a 900 on a traditional U-shaped vert ramp, and Bob Burnquist, who last summer became the first to land a 900 on a full-scale megaramp. Burnquist on Sloan's feat: "Radicalness at its finest. Congrats Elliot! Power smoothness."

Others to have landed a 900 (minus the tail-grab) are Georgio Zatoni, Sandro Dias, Alex Perelson and Mitchie Brusco (when he was 14). The megaramp and mini-mega-ramp feature roll-ins and a jump leading to a quarterpipe wall. Tricks are performed as skateboarders soar above the quarterpipe wall.

Street League 2012: Nyjah Huston Wins Kansas City... Again

Street League's instant scoring allowed for the possibility of pressure-packed moments, but very few times did the skateboarders deliver

The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.

"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
