Trevor Colden is golden with victory at the 2011 Tampa Am

The top amateur skateboarding contest wrapped up this weekend in Tampa Florida with the top Am's offering a glimpse into skateboarding's future. Known in the skate world as a career launching contest, it is one of the most anticipated contests of the year.

In only his second Tampa Am, Virginia native Trevor Colden linked together gap and rail tricks on his way to victory. He sealed the win in the finals with a near perfect run including a frontside crooked grind down the big hubba ledge and a clean big spin frontside boardslide down the big rail.

Luke Hampton from Minnesota finished behind Colden for second while Evan Smith who came into the finals with high expectations finished third to round out the podium.

CJ Tambornino took 1st place in the Best Trick competition with his switch inward heel big spin down the gap.

Street League's instant scoring allowed for the possibility of pressure-packed moments, but very few times did the skateboarders deliver

The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.

"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
