Stereo Skateboards' Hand-Painted Deck Series

By: Kat Hoffman

Colt Bowden knows a thing or two about skateboarding and he knows a lot about art. So what better way to combine those two talents than to hand-paint the Spring 2012 Stereo Classics division deck series? His art pays close attention to detail, and his use of typography makes his work distinctive.

"I find most of my inspiration from mid-1900's sign-painting as well as americana folk art and illustration." said Bowden of his work.

The Stereo Classics series includes pro models for Jason Lee, Chris Pastras, Matt Rodriguez, and Chris Miller.

Colt and Stereo give us a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process with their new time-lapse video below:

Laguna Seca Invitational Downhill Skateboard Race

By: Nate Hoppes

Apparently there is more to the Sea Otter Classic than riding a bike. NHS and Road Rider hosted the The Laguna Seca Invitational Downhill event at the famed raceway, honoring the 1981 downhill race when Roger Hickey and John Hutson battled down the track.

Highlights from Thrasher Magazine

Watching the competition made me think back to 10 years ago when the Gravity Games had skateboarders racing at up to 70-mph, an event that resulted in some of the heaviest skateboarding crashes we've seen. Perhaps it's time for the X Games to bring back a downhill skate event.

Nomad Skateboards Gets "Very Old School"

By: Kat Hoffman

Spain's Nomad Skateboards is getting cinematic with their latest skate flick "Very Old School." Shot entirely in black and white, the film is reminiscent of yesteryear and features their soon to be released vintage cruiser. It's too bad more films aren't made like this.

Boo Johnson Joins Mountain Dew Skateboarding

By: Nate Hoppes

Boo Johnson from the little California mountain town of Tehachapi signed a deal to join the Mountain Dew skateboarding team. Johnson joins an impressive roster including Paul Rodriguez, Theotis Beasley, and Keelan Dadd.

To celebrate, the Dew crew put together a short "Welcome to the Team" edit featuring kind words about the skater from his new teammates. The footage features Boo Johnson skating P-Rod's private training facility.

Fortunately, now that Johnson is on the Mountain Dew skate team, we can look forward to seeing him compete at this year's Dew Tour Stops in Ocean City and San Francisco.
