  • Unified Theory... Of Bullshit

I'm not a huge fan of The Berrics. Of course I obviously love The Battle At The Berrics, but that's pretty much the only thing I like on there. But in the spirit of fairness and impartiality, The Berrics isn't that bad of a place. I mean what with the editing and the social network and all that stuff, it obviously appeals to young kids more than it does a grumpy old coot like me. But Berra and Co. do provide a service as such to little skate kids looking for skate clips on the internet. And they do a lot of good stuff for skaters, even kickstarting the careers of many younger guys on the come up. I've seen lots of videos of kids in the background getting to skate The Berrics, and you really can't knock stuff like the pizza party they had for all those kids. That stuff's pretty cool. (Even though the kids had to go see on of Berra's friends' movies to get into the pizza party.) But with that being said, Steve Berra often acts like The Berrics is in existence solely to support skateboarding, to give the skate kids of the world a chance to check out amazing skateboard clips, and foster a sense of community with these kids. (How you can create a skate community with kids spread out across the globe in front of their computer screens is beyond me.) But sometimes I really think that Berra's position on this borders on delusions of grandeur where he really makes it seem as though The Berrics is saving skateboarding. I mean, it's not like there is a loss of places to check out skateboard clips on the internet, right? And the Berrics does have t-shirts and various products for sale, so obviously skateboard philanthropy is not the only motive behind the website. But that's to be expected, and truthfully, is totally fair on their part. Now again in the spirit of fairness and impartiality, I'd like to state that Steve Berra was my first favourite pro skater and I thought he was the sickest dude for so long. So it's not like I have a personal vendetta against him, nor am I baggi More >

  • Ghetto Video Premiere

    You Will Soon (http://youwillsoon.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss)

My friend Owen has been working on this video called The Ghetto Video for about 10 years now, and he is finally finished it and ready to premiere it this Friday night at the upstairs of Lydia's pub. I saw a rough cut of the video about 7 or 8 years ago, and I don't remember much of it, but I do remember that Westside Lee's section was off the fucking hook. (Would you expect any less?) This video definitely has some classic Saskatoon dudes in it, and some classic footage. I'd guess some of it stretching back to the 90s, so it should be a fun watch. Here's a few teasers for it. If anyone knows Owen, it will be a hilarious video with ridiculous edits, and terrible music. And obviously a great excuse to get drunk on Friday. And hey if all of that doesn't entice you, all the proceeds from the night go towards replacing Owen's stolen camera gear, and by the looks of the poster he's got A LOT of shit to raffle off. Everyone should come out for the party! See you there. you will soon More >
