Vans brought to life the creative concepts of four of the earlier selected skateboard brands and their idea for the ultimate obstacle - each inspired by Hamburg's naughty and nautical past and present. The designs by Clich , Element Europe, Death Skateboards and Antiz were realised by famous ramp builder Andreas "Sch tzi" Sch tzenberger of IOU Ramps and installed on the Reeperbahn to be skated for one day only. Team Death consists of Dan Cates, Adam Moss, Mark Nicolson and Mark "Radman" Radden. Team Manager Dan Cates christened the Death Skateboards Obstacle the "The Spot Pirate" as the team pillaged some of their favourite skate spots from around the Europe and turned them into something new. Barcelona, Valencia, Grand Canary, Liverpool and St. Albans were all part of this amazing amalgamation. After an hour of fierce battle, it was Frenchman Sam Partaix who was crowned the conqueror of the Death Skateboards obstacle.
The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.
"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
