Vans brought to life the creative concepts of four of the earlier selected skateboard brands and their idea for the ultimate obstacle - each inspired by Hamburg's naughty and nautical past and present. The designs by Clich , Element Europe, Death Skateboards and Antiz were realised by famous ramp builder Andreas "Sch tzi" Sch tzenberger of IOU Ramps and installed on the Reeperbahn to be skated for one day only. Team Element consists of Alexandre Dereon (FRA), Guillaume Mocquin (FRA), Phil Zwijsen (BEL), Mickael Mackrodt (GER) and Ross McGouran (GBR). For Team Manager Alexandre Dereon it was important that the obstacle is related to the harbour, shipping containers, ships etc. So they designed a cargo ship with waves on the side. Element's "Oil Spill" obstacle, fits in nicely with Hamburg's seafaring heritage and ads an environmental theme to proceedings. Once again, Phil Zwijsen (BEL) skated this one with creative vigor and was justly rewarded with ' 1600 for his efforts.
The 2012 Street League season kicked off in Kansas City this past weekend as it did last year-- with skateboard technician Nyjah Huston taking home $150,000. Huston's ability to land difficult and technical tricks consistently makes him almost unbeatable in the current Street League format.
"It was a hard one tonight, that's for sure!" said Nyjah. "I definitely had to work for it. I love the challenge, though, and to skate with these guys is great."
