Last week almost all of the Skateboarder Magazine crew flew to New York for the Red Bull Manny Mania contest. I’ve been to New York a hand full of times before but never was able to skate through the city like we did this time. It was one of the best times I’ve had on my skateboard. This week’s post is from the photos I shot while there. Next week I’ll continue part 2 of the previous Ryan Fitch blog.
Our fearless leader Jaime Owens pushing through the city.
I love charging through cars this close. New York has it’s own definition of personal space.
Jaime still pushing with camera gear strapped to his back.
We stopped by the Converse contest that was up in Chelsea. Zered Bassett was killing it. Check out this 5 foot high backside flip.
After the backside flip he did this super high stalefish.
I went and checked out the bowl contest. There were a bunch of local dudes killing it. I loved this guy’s get up.
This guy’s name is John Gardener. He actually won the contest. The only reason I know his name is because of these ladies below.
This is John’s Mom, Sister and Cousin (I believe). I was standing next to them and his Mom started talking to me about John like he was still a 10 year old kid. I’ll keep all the embarrassing things she said off the world wide web but it was nice to hear a supportive parent. They were beyond happy that John won.
Seeing Fred Gall try this noseblunt drop in was definitely a highlight of the trip.
After the contest we skated home along the river.
While shooting the photo of the river above I looked over at this hotel/condos that was having a party on the roof. Then I looked three windows down…
Thanks for the good times NYC and Red Bull! Can’t wait for next year!
Check back next Friday for more photos.
