The other night I cruised over to the studio of Ben Brough, aka 33, at his home in Costa Mesa. It was the night before a showing and he was in the process of putting some of the final touches on a few of his works.
33’s from Kona on the Big Island of the Hawaiian Islands and has made a living off of surfing and art for sometime now. He began surfing for Volcom when he was 14-years-old and has never looked back. Along the way he has traveled the world, and seen a lot, which has given him the inspiration to create. For most of his travels he has kept a journal full of expression and creation.
Now, years after he began his globe trot, he has a box full of journal after journal. Places like Japan and France, with people like: Ozzie Wright, Jamie Lynn, Mike Morrissey and Shawn “Barney” Barron. His surfing began him on his travels, now his art is taking over. So sit back and experience 33, the night before a show, in his studio.
