Mehring’s Bearings: The Last Night of Max Fish.

Max Fish. New York City’s most notorious skate bar, and LES staple since 1989, closed it’s doors on Tuesday morning. The days leading up to it were filled with bands playing and art shows. Max Fish was part of an older New York scene that has been fading slowly over the last 10 years. Gentrification has taken its toll on the neighborhood. Fortunately they are reopening in Brooklyn later this year but no one expects it to be the same place. If you skate and you’ve been to NYC, chances are you’ve set foot inside this place. It was the perfect meet up spot for locals and out of towners alike. You could go there on any given night and probably run into someone you knew. Max Fish was a special place for many. Here are some photos from it’s final hours.

-Jonathan Mehring

PS: No skating this week. If you would like to see some stills from Zered and friend’s Straight to the Internet click here.
