We had made it to the halfway point of our trip at the town of Irkutsk. Near Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world, we were met by some locals who took us from the train to our hostel in the middle of the night. When we woke up we saw the sign for the place just like the movie Hostel. I’m not sure we would have stayed there if it had been light enough to see the decrepit building with it’s creepy signage. Fortunately the inside was a good bit nicer.
The locals took us to a techno party in some abandoned warehouse outside of town. This was pretty much the average bar scene there.
Kenny at the Museum of Wooden Architecture near Lake Baikal.
We bought some smoked fish and headed to the lake.
The water never gets warmer than 50F but we had to have a swim.
After Baikal and between rain showers we went skating in downtown Irkutsk.
Keegan Sauder - nosebone.
Kenny Reed - Japan.
After getting rained out for most of two days we got back on the train and headed to Mongolia.
This was a long segment. 2-3 days on the train.
Not surprisingly new tats were given and received.
Our filmer Mike Fox.
