Over 450 avid skateboarding fans descended on the Haight in San Francisco on Saturday to witness Red Bull Manny Mania. The competition between the 40 mostly Bay area skateboarders was fierce, but in the end it was Oceanside’s Dane Vaughan who came out on top, besting Tracy’s Ryan Guiso (2nd place) and San Francisco’s Dwayne Galloway (3rd Place). In addition to taking second place, Guiso was also winner of theSkateboarder Magazine”Best Trick Award,” for his “360 kickflip nose manual.”
Winner Dane Vaughan will have footage of his performance entered into the digital finals and posted on the official Red Bull Manny Mania website to compete against the winners from the other 14 stops across the U.S. The skater with the most votes on his video at the end of the summer wins a digital video camera prize pack valued at over $7,000. Vaughan, Guiso and Galloway also all won prizes on-site including skateboarding gear.
“Obviously I’m really glad I stayed in town to compete,” joked Dane Vaughan. “There were so many good skaters out here today. I’m stoked to win, but really it’s not about competing , it’s all about having fun.”
The event also featured a live performance by Del the Funky Homosapien and A-Plus ofHieroglyphics.
