Killer Crowds, Great Weather and Major Shredding at 2011 Scion RAT Skateboard Tour Kick-Off Event
March 27, 2011 – DALLAS, TX – It’s always nice to start anything with a BANG and that’s exactly what happened at the kick-off event of the 2011 Scion RAT Skate Tour.
“This is the second year in a row that the series started in Lewisville and it was definitely our biggest event since the series started.” said RAT Tour Organizer, Bill Geiger. “We had unbelievable support from riders, fans and everyone involved in the series.”
The event took place Saturday, March 26th at the Scion Skate Park in Lewisville, TX. Over one hundred of the top amateur skaters in the region showed up to compete in street and bowl competitions trying to win a share of over $2500 in cash and prizes.
The top three spots on the podium went to Carston Boyer who was Mr. consistent all day and probably landed more tricks then any other competitor. Boyer got $100 cash and a RAT Trophy Deck. Second place went to Kechaud Johnson who does everything BIG including a crowd-pleasing huge BS 360 transfer and first place went to the super technical Taylor Jett. Jett’s tricks included a front varial heelflip front board on the handrail and a smooth array of flip tricks over the pyramid. They received $200 and $300 respectively along with RAT Trophy “Check Decks”. The top six riders also all took home a case of Monster Energy drink for their efforts.
Following the first round of street, everyone shifted over to the massive cloverleaf bowl in Lewisville to watch the transition slayers. Twenty riders where split into four (4) heats with the top two (2) advancing to the bowl finals later in the day. Everyone took a one-minute solo run and each heat ended with a 3-minute snake jam. The 8 riders who would advance included last years Lewisville bowl winner Gary Morris, Zach Castillo, Gavin May, Chris Wilkinson, William Cortez, Pat Donivan, Taylor Brown and Westin Smith. In the finals, Taylor Brown un-seated the defending Lewisville champion ending up in the top spot. Oklahoma native Morris had to settle for 2nd place and was joined on the podium by RAT rookie, William Cortez. Pat Donivan, Westin Smith and Zach Castillo rounded out the top 6. The top three got RAT “Check Decks” and Everyone received cash and product from series sponsors Spy Optic, Theeve, Skullcandy and Monster Energy.
The street and bowl winners also received one-year subscriptions to Skateboarder Magazine.
Stop #1 of the 2011 Scion RAT Skate Tour was made possible with support from Scion and local dealer Scion of Lewisville, Monster Energy Drink, MetroPCS, The US Marines, Skullcandy, Spy Optic, Skateboarder Magazine, Sector 9, Element Skateboards, Already Been Chewed, Neff Headwear, Theeve Trucks and Sk8te Skins. Additional support provided by the City of Lewisville and local skate shops including Index Skate Supply, Woly Board Company, Shredderz and The Rec Shop.
