What is it about cops and skateboarders that just doesn’t mix? Here we have yet another news report out of Los Angeles involving the two, this time it was an alleged riot at a movie premiere. It should come as little surprise that the premiere was a Baker/Shake Junt production, flyer here.
Saturday night on the corner of Vine and Hollywood, hundreds of skaters gathered to watch the premiere of Baker’s latest film creation, Bake and Destroy, and things may have gotten a little bit out of hand when the crowd far exceeded the Vine theater’s capacity. Cops showed up in riot gear, which then escalated the scene into a full on melee. Skaters running in all directions, helicopters overhead, and over 100 riot police marching in formation, while cameras and iphones roll.
Here is the news report on the incident, along with a first person cellphone clip, no injuries were reported and one arrest was made. (I’d hate to be that guy.)
No word yet from Baker about the incident. One one hand they got a bunch of free PR out of this, but after LAPD and local business owners, including the Theatre owner, are done scolding them for what they did, it may be a while before any more skate movie premieres go down at the Vine Theatre.
