Stoked Mentoring is a non-profit action sports mentoring organization with the mission of developing “Successful Teens with Opportunity, Knowledge, Experience and Determination” through action sports, mentoring, and coaching. By bringing together “at-risk” youth and successful professional adults to learn a new non-traditional sport (snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing), Stoked’s programs serve as the groundwork and means for enhancing mentoring relationships and introduces coaching skills and tools that elicit the best from both parties.
Responsible for developing the curriculum for each mentoring program/season, Stoked recruits and trains program mentors, hand-matches mentor and mentee, manages the mentoring relationship for optimal results and oversee the following post-season relationship. The current programs are targeted towards teens 13 – 18 years old.
Snow Mentor (8 weeks), a mix of snowboarding and success-oriented mentoring sessions, aims to introduce the mentoring pair to the sport of snowboarding, while also developing life skills that can be used off the slopes.
Skate Mentor (5 weeks) seeks, through learning the sport of skateboarding, to create a strong connection between youth and their mentors, build communication skills, develop positive social habits, learn networking tactics and the value of community.
Surf Mentor (6 Weeks) encourages mentoring pairs to create and build strong values for a successful life through learning the sport of surfing. In addition to promoting respect and awareness, the program gives participants access to tools to overcome fear, and build trust.
