The 7th Annual Vans Pro-tec Pool Party takes place this Saturday at the Vans Skatepark of Orange. The top pros and masters vie for their piece of more than $100,000 in one of the most unforgiving bowls ever built.
Unfortunately earlier this week two time defending champion in the pro division Bucky Lasek broke his ankle filming a GoPro commercial at his home pool. In an effort to save a couple of the cameras attached to Bucky’s pads he landed awkwardly braking his ankle. There will be no three peat from Bucky this year leaving the door open for some young guys like Pedro Barros and Alex Perelson to win the title and their share of the $100k.
Softening the news of Bucky’s absence is the announcement Today that skate legend Tony Hawk will compete in the masters division. Hawk has been retired from competitive skateboarding since he landed the first ever 900 on a skateboard at X Games V in 1999. The return of Hawk will make things interesting in the Masters division where last year Steve Caballero won the division. Before Caballero’s victory last year, the masters division was dominated by Chris Miller, who had won the comp the previous five years.
If your not fortunate enough to make it down to the Vans Skatepark on Saturday tune into the live webcast at 3 p.m. on Vans.com.
