Moments: Me and My Shadow. Alta, Utah.

Moments Tyler Sterling Alta Utah

Over the years I've noticed that sometimes you get a snow explosion that mimics the skier’s form—a shadow if you would. It's the laws of physics applied to a skier cutting through snow. The dynamics of the snow breaking up sometimes harvest an explosion similar to the position of the actual skier. This shot of Tyler Sterling from Alta shows just that—the upper part of the snow wave is reaching out in harmony with his arm, and the lower part is bulging from his knees, which are a bit forward of his body. I've seen the laws of physics applied to deep powder visuals quite a bit but it's still always an eye-catcher.—Lee Cohen
