Nature Valley US Alpine National Championships Hit Tahoe

by Mike Rogge

Springtime is Tahoe is a special time of year. From the kick ass corn to sun-filled events and T-shirt wearing, mule-kicking maniacs that make their way to the Chammy, the folks of California and Nevada know how to get down as the season comes to a close. This weekend is the Nature Valley U.S. Alpine National Championships at Squaw and Alpine Meadows. Locals Julia Mancuso, Marco Sullivan, Travis Ganong and more will welcome other U.S. Ski Team members and Winter Olympians such as Gold Medalists Ted Ligity and Mikaela Shiffrin to the two valleys for downhill action. If racing isn't your thing, there's plenty of good snow to be had on both mountains, including a great terrain park at Squaw and wide open corn fields off the Sherwood chair at Alpine.

Live music will be playing all weekend, featuring Terra Plane, Drop Theory and Mojo Green. For a full-listing of events, please see below. Of course if you happen to be out of town this weekend, there's another major event, perhaps the most major event of the season, going down next Saturday at Squaw. Watch this for a taste:

Despite a lackluster snow year in California, the people of North Lake Tahoe will be out in full force this weekend letting their freak flags fly on the mountain and off
