Though Golden boy Shaun White remains the favorite to win the halfpipe competition next month in Vancouver, the gap that once existed between White and his counterparts has narrowed in the final push toward the Olympics. Performance levels in the halfpipe have been skyrocketing over the past few months, especially on the U.S. side. During a qualifying event in Mammoth Mountain, Calif., on January 6, Michigan's Danny Davis beat White in a remarkable showdown. Davis' winning run that was immediately hailed as the best ever. Apparently, the loss didn't sit well with White. Rather than go rest up for the Olympics he headed straight for Park City, Utah, where he's been pushing himself harder than ever in an attempt to add another move to his repertoire just weeks away from opening ceremonies. His latest is called the Double McTwist 1260, which crams three horizontal rotations inside two vertical flips while grabbing. All the training seems to be paying off. White revealed the move in front of a huge crowd during last night's Grand Prix qualifier en route to another victory. Rest assured we can expect more of this in Vancouver. The 18-year-old stomped it off a massive kicker in Europe.
While many of us were sulking because the season is practically over, Norwegian shredder, Stale Sandbech was busy stomping a brand new trick. A video of the 18-year-old hitting a massive kicker in Europe just surfaced, and in it, Sandbech stomps a triple underflip 1260. Yeah, we didn't really think that was possible either, but this video from Stale's sponsors proves it.
After seeing the video, we had to know what was going through Sandbech's mind when he stomped the new trick...

For tricks I'm much more impressed with the freestyle ski jumpers and mogul skiers than the snowboarders. The mogul skiers are doing stuff while flying down VW sized bump runs, landing then without missing a beat. Much more athletic than back and forth, back and forth in a half pipe. The freestyle jumpers are doing what quad flips with quad twists?
The raddest of all are the DH skiers. Man those guys are the shizzt!

This entire sport is just another example of feel-good American bullshit. Americans are non-existent in winter sports, so you make up a sport and dominate it for 10 years. Just like short track. Then the world's real winter athletes take over and the Americans can't compete, then on to make up another sport

This guy is raw! So much talent it's unbelievable! He's almost like the Tiger Woods of his sport - so dominating and internationally known. Even if you just began snowboarding, people know who Shaun White is.
