GrindTV Newswire via Sierra Nevada College Bariloche, Argentina- Born out of a long-standing love affair with life in the mountains, Sierra Nevada College, a private four-year college located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, has created another high quality academic experience in a world class location--Bariloche, Argentina. SNC has teamed up with South America Snow Sessions and, as their official education partner, is offering college students the opportunity to earn credit in select travel courses at the SASS compound near Cerro Catedral.

Courses for credit include Conversational Spanish, Resort Management Internships, Foundations of Entrepreneurship, certification in AIARE Level 1 and 2 Avalanche and Backcountry Skills, Winter Adventure Photography and Videography, and Freeriding and Freesking.

Sierra Nevada College Provost, Dr. Lynn Gillette states, "The driving force behind SNC's involvement with programs like SASS is the belief that students learn more and learn more deeply when fully engaged with the experience they're having." Rosie Hackett, Assistant Professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department and Chair of the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program explains, "Experiential learning--the chance to actually apply the knowledge you are gaining--makes these courses exceptional."

Travis Moore, a director with SASS believes, "The SASS and SNC partnership is one-of-a-kind. We provide students from around the world the ability to earn valuable college credit while learning through sport and travel. The SASS experience combined with the quality of the Sierra Nevada College faculty creates a cultural immersion and educational experience that goes far beyond the traditional classroom."

Sierra Nevada College junior, Tucker Norred, a native of Big Bear, California and member of the SNC five time USCSA championship snowboard team, is as deep into his Ski Business and Resort Management internship as he is into the 7+ feet of powder that has fallen since he arrived for session two in July. "SNC worked with SASS to draft an internship that fit my major perfectly. This summer has been an amazing opportunity and I'm super stoked on the terrain and scenery down here. SASS Avalanche Instructor Lel Tone with SNC students and SNC are sick." You can check out Norred's blog at Tucker at SASS.

Not only inspired by their surroundings, students like Norred are equally inspired by the SNC faculty and SASS coaches who ride by day and teach by night. Seasoned veteran instructors, like SNC Photography instructor Sean Sullivan maintain, "This program is a clear evolution in the art of education. Our courses in winter adventure photography or videography put students on the mountain directly in touch with what they're here to learn. SNC professors help them gain real-world knowledge, through hands-on training. The faculty doesn't just teach their subject--they live it on a day-to-day basis."

That's precisely how the faculty's DNA at Sierra Nevada College is designed-- with over thirty majors and concentrations, the college attracts not only professors with the highest academic credentials but also foreign diplomats, former CEOs, and award winning poets as teachers who collectively profess that learning is an adventure. Summer school at SASS is just one example of the innovative and interdisciplinary programs offered at SNC--students go beyond the typical undergraduate experience and explore, learn, and work professionally in programs such as: World Cup internships in South Africa; Spanish in the Field in the Yucatan Peninsula; and Service Learning projects with Habitat for Humanity in El Salvador and Katmandu.

Tim Cohee, Chair of SNC's Ski Business and Resort Management program--the nation's only four-year degree offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration--describes it best when he says, "Sierra Nevada College's mission revolves around creating exceptional experiences for our students. They learn to thrive both in and out of the classroom." Qualified students have the possibility to study, and ski or ride at SASS with the support of financial aid (www.sierranevada.edu).
