Mr. Perfect poses for Mr. Porter

By: Heather Hendricks

Remember that guy, the one that scored a perfect 100 at this year's Winter X Games in Aspen?

Yep, you know the one. Well apparently the blazoned redhead is involved with more than just high-flying aerobatics. Now he's also a full-fledged model. Shaun White recently popped up posing on the home page of the Mr. Porters, a website geared towards gentlemen who are into high-fashion.

The feature includes a lengthy interview with the burgeoning star and delves into all aspects of the 25-year-old's career. From competitions, to endorsements, movies and more, Mr. Porter's shows Shaun White in a new light.

Here's an excerpt from the interview.

Q. You are a daredevil by default. Do you take a similar approach when it comes to style?
A. I love to compete but as far as being a daredevil, that's the furthest thing from me. My lifestyle off the hill is totally different. I guess when it comes to fashion I'm geared more towards styles that are driven by musicians. I've always worn tighter jeans, sports coats and suit jackets.

Q. After your cameo appearance in Friends With Benefits, is acting something you would like to do more of?
A. It was definitely something that put me out of my element, but I found it really exciting and intriguing. Going to the premiere in New York was great. I'd love to do more acting but nothing has really piqued my interest yet.

Q. What is the one thing people always assume about you that's not true?
A. People always think I'm going to act a certain way because I have sponsors and various things in my life that are very corporate. At the end of the day I'm a 25-year-old guy in the action sports world. And I like to have a good time.

Top riders set off to compete in 2012 Burton Canadian Open

By: Lindsay Fraka

Talk about jet-setting. With the conclusion of the 2012 Winter X Games on Sunday, many of the competitors left Aspen, CO and traveled directly to Calgary to compete in the Burton Canadian Open, the second stop of the Burton Global Open Series. From one contest to another, these riders are consistently expected to be prepared for anything and ready to drop in and throw down their best. The points earned at this event also apply to the Swatch TTR standings and titles so these competitors are clearly hungry for the win.

Semi-finals for men and women's halfpipe took place today and you can check the results and watch future live feeds HERE.

BURLINGTON, VT (February 2, 2012) - Top slopestyle and halfpipe riders are at WinSport Canada's Canada Olympic Park (COP) this week to compete in the fourth annual Burton Canadian Open (CANO), presented by MINI. World famous riders like three-time Olympian Kelly Clark (USA) and current TTR Halfpipe World Tour leader Benji Farrow (USA) will join local favorites like Robby Balharry (CAN) and Brooke Voigt (CAN) to battle it out in one of Canada's premier snowboard competitions. The Canadian Open is the second stop of the Burton Global Open Series (BGOS), and the entire event is free and open to the public with halfpipe finals taking place on Friday, February 3 at 7:00p.m. (Mountain Time) and slopestyle finals going down on Saturday, February 4 at 11:00a.m. (Mountain Time).

At CANO 2012, the women's field is loaded with big-name competitors from all over the world. Topping the list is Kelly Clark, the reigning 2011 BGOS Champion. After winning her 13th contest in a row at X Games this past weekend, Kelly Clark will be the rider to beat in the CANO halfpipe this year. Gretchen Bleiler (USA), Hannah Teter (USA), Cilka Sadar (SLO), Castellet Queralt (ESP), Linn Haug (NOR) and Mercedes Nicoll (CAN) are also strong contenders coming into this year's Canadian Open. On the slopestyle side, Silvia Mittermuller (GER), who is currently ranked third in the TTR Slopestyle World Tour ranking, will give last year's CANO slopestyle winner Jamie Anderson (USA) some tough competition.

On the men's side, Scotty James (AUS) is in fine form and looking to better his second place halfpipe podium finish from 2011. In slopestyle, Chas Guldemond (USA) will be looking for a spot on the Canadian Open podium. Janne Korpi (FIN), Manual Pietropoli (ITA) and Ryo Aono (JPN) are also all planning to compete this year.

All of these riders are in strong contention for earning a piece of the Canadian Open's prize purse of $70,000, not to mention valuable points towards the Burton Global Open Series 2011/2012 Halfpipe and Slopestyle titles, which are each worth $25,000. Moreover, riders can earn valuable points that count towards the TTR Halfpipe and Slopestyle World Tour titles.

Riders at CANO will also be competing for the Creative Use of Space (CUOS) Award, presented by MINI. The male and female rider with the most creative and progressive tricks in the halfpipe and slopestyle will each win $2,500. Additionally, $5,000 will be awarded at the end of the BGOS season to the resort shape crew that built the most creative CUOS slopestyle features during the 2011/12 Burton Global Open Series. And lastly, riders at CANO will be earning points toward winning a brand new MINI Countryman, which will be awarded at the US Open in March. The male and female rider with the best overall results across all of the BGOS events will drive away with a MINI.

Not only will the Canadian Open host world-class competitive snowboarding, there will also be some next-level entertainment on hand. Due to the overwhelming success of the nighttime halfpipe finals last year, the 2012 CANO halfpipe finals will once again take place under the lights tomorrow at 7pm hosted by Terry and Deaner from the cult films "Fubar" and "Fubar 2". After attendees watch the biggest halfpipe competition hosted in Canada, they are invited to stick around and celebrate to the sounds of DJ Hedspin on the deck of the main lodge at COP. All are welcome, and admission is free.

On Saturday night, CANO will throw an official bash to celebrate a great week of competitions at the Ship & Anchor in downtown Calgary on 17th Avenue. Well-known Canadian bands, Forbidden Dimension and Nightseeker will keep the house rocking all night long. On top of that, the finale to CANO 2012 will feature drink specials and appearances by Terry and Deaner from "Fubar". Doors open at 9pm and entry is first-come, first-serve.

GoPro HD: Champions of Winter X Games 16

By: Lindsay Fraka

GoPro has been secretly gathering the snow world's best athletes and creating one hell of an A-team. During Winter X Games 16 that concluded on Sunday January 29, the latest addition to the team was announced. Who might this lone stranger be? Picture flowing fiery locks, questionable taste in snow pants, and an annoying tendency to win every single halfpipe contest he competes in without a second look. Yep. Shaun White.

Along with Tom Wallisch, Jamie Anderson, and Hannah Teter, White took home some X Games hardware in 2012. This hardware of course, being the gold medal paired with a perfect score after his last run in men's pipe finals. Tom Wallisch also claimed the gold in men's ski slopestyle as well as Jamie Anderson who earned hers in women's slopestyle finals. Teter followed up with the bronze in women's halfpipe finals.

Understand the A-team comment now? Check out the highlights with this talented group of rippers below.

Patagonia and 'Last Light'

By: Kat Hoffman

Patagonia goes and does it again with the release of this short snow film made by Sweetgrass Productions titled: Last Light.

Filmed in the Glacier Bay National Park near Haines, Alaska. It features riders Stephan Drake, Forrest Shearer and Johan Jonsson on a mission for some big- (ok I'll say it, HUGE)
-lines.

Surrounded by the majestic peaks of AK, The Sweetgrass team witnessed the magical phenomenon of the extraordinary light conditions called "alpenglow".

Straight from the mouths of the Sweetgrass crew--"an undeniable magic... the final seconds of a day's light that give the mountains impossible texture and life before falling into shadow."

See for yourself why the Last Light, may just be the best light.

Do yourself a favor and expand to full size and watch in HD.
