Action Sports in Slow Motion

By: Kat Hoffman

Life moves quickly and if you don't take a moment to slow down, you might miss the beauty of it all. The same goes for watching athletes whose movements are so fast and intricate that they can't always be appreciated in real-time. But now, by the power of almighty editing tools, we get to view the talent and technical work required to perform these complex acts.

This slow motion video compiled by Gregory Villien of France displays some of today's top action sports athletes in their discipline of choice. Villien worked for over 7 years in motion and graphic design, and the effects of his editing skills are stunning.

Stinky Socks and Ride For Earth Collab: You Buy Socks, They Plant a Tree

By: Lindsay Fraka

"Going Green" has become a significant contemporary movement. And companies in the action sports industry have hopped onboard, creating boards and apparel that are constructed with from more eco-friendly materials. Production company, Ninja Squad, has joined in the cause with their latest endeavor, Stinky Socks, a product that's designed for snowboarders and skaters.

The company also recently announced a collaboration project with Ride For Earth-- a worldwide organization that supports extreme sports by planting trees 'for every ride you own'. Simply put, if you send a photo in with whatever type of shred stick you prefer and a small amount of money, RFE will plant a tree in your name.

Now, for every pair of "Stinky Earth" socks sold, Ride For Earth will also plant a tree in your name.

Get involved.

Girdwood photographer/drummer jams with Eric McFadden

By: derek taylor

When John Burns bought Alyeska Resort in 2007, he immediately started to do what any other Dead Head/Skier would do: He started combining his two passions of music and skiing. Five years later, Girdwood locals are reaping the rewards. Alyeska has become a true skier's resort and gets better every year, and the acts that play the resort's signature night spot, The Sitzmark, keep improving as well. One of those locals is Simon Evans, a Girdwood property manager, photographer and drummer. When Eric McFadden--the guitar virtuoso who spent three years picking for George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars--came to play the Sitz during the epic winter of 2012, he needed someone to bang the skins. He called Evans, who conveniently lives across the street, and keeps a kit at the bar. Evans made this short edit of the experience.

Rob Dyrdek's IVI Launch Party

By: Kat Hoffman

The IVI Launch Party
It was Saturday, May 12, deep in the Hollywood Hills, where some very famous people got together to celebrate the launch of skateboard mogul and television star Rob Dyrdek's newest endeavor-- a line of premium sunglasses and accessories. The party lasted well into the early hours, where a mixture of skateboarders, actors, musicians, and media rocked out to the music of L.A. based band "Bleached" and DJ Ana Calderon.

Dyrdek is partnered with CEO of Fox Head, Pete Fox, and acclaimed designer Jerome Mage to create a line that promises "to represent an elevation in street and skate inspired fashion and lifestyle."

The sunglasses also incorporate the work of Carl Zeiss of Zeiss Optics, which will provide every lens in IVI sunglasses for optimum, optical excellence.

Is this just another star using his name to create a line of products that lack quality and substance? Or are these just some high-quality shades? For now you can check out the collection online here and product will available at local retailers in June. In the meantime, we'll just have to take Rob's word for it.

Check out photos of the launch party here.

Driftwood Collective's Board Recycling Project

By: Kat Hoffman

Driftwood Collective has released its third episode to give you ideas on how to recycle your old surfboards. Much to the benefit of the environment, many companies are taking steps to go green.

That responsibility falls on surfers, too, as materials that have been used in the past to make surf planks are quite harmful to the environment.

Recycling the old surf plank does take some muscle work, but the results are priceless. Check out the video below by Driftwood Collective to inspire you to recycle, reuse, and get creative:
