The North Shore Rumbles

By: Jeff Mull

Eddie
It's just past 11 p.m on Dec. 6 in Hawaii, and the swell to end all swells is already thundering on the outer reefs, the first onslaught of its forerunners detonating themselves like they were jihadists. We've been hearing about this behemoth of a swell for more than a week now, leaving everyone stationed on the Seven Mile stretch to speculate about the running of The Eddie. You can't go two steps at Foodland or six paces down the bike path without hearing about the damned thing. Furthering the chatter, at the opening ceremony of The Eddie, Event Director George Downing quipped that the event will run on the 7th, 8th, or 9th.

Gasp!

With Downing's prediction and that ominous purple blog illuminating our LOLA-locked browser's, the entire North Shore is battening down the hatches and hoping that this hyped swell has the backbone to justify its fame. We've been relishing in its big-wave sisters (Has Sunset ever looked so much like perfect...err...Sunset?) and you can rest easy knowing that the skis are fueled and the guns are waxed if the big brother truly arrives.

But now, we wait.

We wait and listen to the boom of Mother Nature. We close our eyes and wonder if these are the sounds of the 30-foot sets we've been told about. We try and sleep. And at 11:26 p.m. we have to wait and see what daylight brings.

Stay posted to GrindTV.com, because I'll be bringing you all of tomorrow's action.
