6 November, 2009 : - - Lobitos, Piura/Peru – Event organizers at the Movistar Peru Classic presented by Rip Curl, Event No. 5 of 7 of 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour, have opted to call competition off for today, with onshore winds and low tides preventing a recommencement. “We sat it out for six hours hoping the tide would assist conditions,” Richie Porta, ASP Women’s World Tour Head Judge, said. “Unfortunately, the swell has not fully eventuated. We have all decided it’s worth rolling the dice and hoping for improved conditions and a bigger swell tomorrow come morning.” More >

7 November, 2009 : - - Pro surfer Eric Geiselman's surfboard was broken in half by what he thinks was a great white shark Thursday evening while he was surfing off Laguna Road, Santa Cruz. Geiselman, in town from New Smyrna Beach, Fla., for the Cold Water Classic, was surfing for fun between heats with his younger brother Evan and friends around dusk Thursday. More >

Quiksilver cuts more jobs in H.B, & Southern California

6 November, 2009 : - - Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. has laid off 125 workers at its headquarters and elsewhere in Southern California as part of its ongoing cost cutting. In all, 200 jobs were cut including 75 vacant positions at Quiksilver. The cuts came at Quiksilver’s America unit, including at its Roxy brand and DC Shoes. Owen's Wright Stuff

19-year-old Owen Wright is having the year of his life. Back home in Australia, he's gone undefeated in Pro Junior competitions. While most of his fellow competitors have surfed in nine events, Wright has only surfed in six, yet that hasn't prevented him from establishing a ridiculous 2000 point lead. The only reason he hasn't won all six times is he had to rush out of a few events early to make it to his next WQS event. Wright has carried his dominance onto the WQS, where he's already secured a spot on next year's world tour. And if you're wondering how he'll do once he gets there...well, don't. Wright beat Slater twice this year in as many tries. He just finished third at the Rip Curl Pro Search in Portugal, too, and might have gone all the way had he not blown out his eardrum in his quarterfinal heat. This guy will be feared next year...and rightfully so.
