  • Malibu's Most Talked About Surfer Since "Da Cat"

It's a Style Thing for Dillon Perillo

While Dillon Perillo has been a solid force for years now, he's somebody a lot of surf fans are just starting to discover. Unlike Orange County, where hot kids are sniffed out by the tender age of 10, Malibu's hot grom seemingly appeared out of thin air to become one of the most talked about up-and-coming Californian surfers today.

As an Amateur, he began opening eyes when he pulled double victories in both the Men's and Juniors divisions at the NSSA Newport Open in 2006. He ended up second in ratings behind Andrew Doheny that year while quietly becoming a National title contender, which is why his Nationals victory was such a stunner.

In 2008 Perillo repeated his incredible double-duty domination at Newport by winning the Oakley Pro Junior and finishing 2nd in the 2-Star WQS in the same weekend. Our take is he's the most stylish surfer to sprout out of Malibu since that Dora guy, but while Perillo has classic good looks, he's not a retro maniac. His surfing is clean and very progressive, which is why he's a threat to take the top spot on this year's Pro Junior circuit in North America.
