The Surfrider Foundation, Maui Chapter is accepting entries into the 2007 Ho’okipa Surf Classic, slated for Saturday and Sunday, January 13 and 14, with rain dates of Saturday and Sunday, January 20 and 21. This is the 17th annual surf contest held in memory of Justin Roberson, a 19-year-old Maui surfer who died in 1989.
Proceeds from entry fees and contest t-shirt sales will help beautify Ho’okipa Beach Park with native plants. Entry forms and contest t-shirts with art by Surfer Magazine founder John Severson are available at Hi-Tech, Hana Hwy Surf, Kuau Store, and online at www.surfrider.org/maui. Beach entries will be accepted.
The contest will host 11 divisions, including Men 18+; Jr. Men 15-17; Grom Boys 12-14; Menehune Boys 7-11; Senior Men 45+; Open Longboard; Jr. Body Board 7-17, Women 18+; Jr. Women 15-17; Grom Girls 12-14; and Minihine Girls 7-11.
