2008 Billabong Pro Mundaka’s Status Unknown

March 6, 2008 : – – The internet is hot with talk the Billabong Pro Mundaka has been cancelled for 2008. The famed sandbar lefts of Mundaka have been elusive for the WCT in recent years and the Association of Surfing Professionals and Billabong may have decided to scrap event #9 of the Dream Tour.

The tide-dependant bank allows contestable conditions only sporadically during the wait period and has frustrated many pros and fans by running just a few heats per day. On the other hand, when it’s on, Mundaka is one of the favorite waves on tour for many pros, including past champions Kelly Slater and Bobby Martinez.  There is no official word yet from either Billabong or the Association of Surfing Professionals.
