7th Annual Surf For The Sea Memorial Contest Oceanside Results

The Seventh Annual Surf for the Sea contest was held at the Oceanside Pier on Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21, 2003. This surfing event is in loving memory of the late Harry Bennett, Steve Leighton, Tore Bonura, Chuck “Clubber” Hundley and Banning Capps, all local surfers who have passed away. This is a benefit for the Surfrider Foundation and other Environmental Organizations. Last year’s event raised $4800 to help protect our ocean, waves and beaches. This year, 177 competitors were treated to 3 to 5 foot fun surf. All competitors received an event T-Shirt, lunch catered by Johnny Mananas Restaurant and a chance at raffle prizes including 3 surfboards.

Local merchants who helped make this event a success are: Johnny Mananas Restuarant, Action Beach Board Shop, Oceanside Surf and Sport, Byrne Surfboards, Carolyn Krammer/The Property Shop GMAC Realtors, North County Trophies, UM Surfboards, INT Surfboards, Potter Designs, Vivid Graphix and Tecate Beer. The raffle was made possible by all the generous donations of the surfing industry. A very big thank you to everyone for helping to make this another successful year.
