About Donnie Solomon:
Donnie Solomon, a top competitive surfer who passed away while surfing Waimea Bay in 1995, continues to have a profound effect on the community. His dedication to the Red Cross lives on as the overriding theme of this WSA event, with more than $40,000 raised in his name since the contest’s inception. Last year, Brent Flatten and the Harold Jones Construction Co. provided a special gift: three palm trees planted along the C-Street boardwalk in memory of Donnie.
Solomon was a supporter of the Red Cross and visited Red Cross facilities throughout the world while he traveled the surfing circuit. He encouraged other surfers and youth to receive safety training in first aid and CPR as well as lifeguard training.
