Andy Irons: Gone But Not Forgotten
On November 2, 2010 the surfing world lost a friend, father, brother, and champion. His death in a Dallas airport hotel room rocked our tight-knit community to its core and fueled myriad internet speculation and rumors. While the cause of his death would reveal itself months later, we prefer to remember Andy for the way he lived and touched people's lives, not how or why he passed away.
Despite the fact that Andy is no longer with us, we still see him in our daily lives whether it be in surf videos, photos in magazines, tee shirts, or homemade signs on the roads of Kauai. He also lives on in the form of his son, Andrew Axel Irons, who is being raised by his mother, Lyndie, and a huge group of adoring family and friends.
A year to the day that one of the world's most electric, passionate, exciting, beloved, and accomplished surfers left us, let us take a moment to remember Andy Irons, gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace, brother.—Justin Coté
