For the first time in history, ASR & Sacred Craft have agreed to stage the summer edition of the consumer surfboard expo in San Diego during ASR. The one-of-a-kind event debuts on Saturday and Sunday, August 14-15, 2010 running concurrently with ASR at the San Diego Convention Center. Sacred Craft will feature the widest category range of surfboard designs ever assembled. Over 100 shapers & manufacturers plan to be in attendance including Rusty, Pat Rawson, Jeff Clark, Rich Harbour, Cooperfish & Michel Junod. Long, short, no-fin, 5-fin, wide, narrow, thick, thin, old, new, wood, foam, carbon, hand shaped, molded, standup, kneeboard, handplane, you name it, the surfboard remains front & center at Sacred Craft.
This year marks the 30-year anniversary of legendary Australian surfer/shaper Simon Anderson’s seminal Thruster surfboard design. On August 14 & 15 Sacred Craft will honor Simon Anderson during the Tribute to the Masters Shape-off presented by US Blanks. The competing shapers are defending San Diego champion Pat Rawson, Matt Biolos, Brian Bulkley, Larry Mabile, Jason Bennett and Michael Baron. “I’m very stoked to have the Thruster’s 30-year anniversary honored at Sacred Craft,” said Australia’s Simon Anderson. “It’ll be good fun to get back to the States and see some old friends & see what is happening with board design over there.”
Also at this summer’s Sacred Craft Expo will be Surfboard & Surf Memoribilia ‘Antique Roadshow’ Appraisals presented by PRIMO Beer. The Sacred Craft version of “Roadshow” invites the general public to bring collectible surfboards & memorabilia to a panel of experts for appraisal. The panel assigns a value to the items, but more importantly they often uncover the provenance, or story, behind the value of the item.
You will also find the Young Guns of Shaping presented by SIMR Surfboards, an Art Grotto curated by Robb Havassy & the Surf Story Project, the Art of Shaping OC Edition presented by Billabong, a laminating demo featuring Greg Loehr and others, the Korduroy.TV Short Films Lounge, and Surfers Playing Music for Surfers on the Rhythm Music Stage. There will also be an auction, a talk with Simon Anderson, a Bob Simmons exhibit, demos, giveaways & much more. Sacred Craft is an event no surfer should miss.
As with previous Sacred Craft events the public is welcome.
