The Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day presented by the New Ford Fiesta took place last weekend (Saturday & Sunday, November 15-16) at over 60 beaches around Australia.
Over the weekend schools introduced more than 4,000 girls of all ages to surfing including Australia’s Next Top Model contestants Kristy Coulcher and Rebecca Jobson on Sunday, November 16 at Manly.
Rebecca Jobson is a Filipino-Australian who made it into the Top Six of the fourth Season of Australia’s Next Top Model, the Australian edition of the popular reality television show franchise. The 18-year-old model has grown up on the beaches of Wollongong but was thrilled to finally get a chance to learn to surf in a fun and controlled environment.
“I have never tried to surf before today and I was really excited to be able to stand up. It was so much fun and I recommend the event to everyone,” said Rebecca Jobson.
Kristy Coulcher , 20, is a Sydney beach girl who also took part in Season 4 of Australia’s Next Top Model.
“I’ve been out in the water a few times but have never really mastered surfing. I stood up today though so I’ll definitely be getting out there again this summer,” said Kristy Coulcher.
2008 is the 18th consecutive year the program has run, making it the longest running and largest participation-based all girls surfing program in the world.
“We had a fantastic weekend and a great turnout at all locations. All of the participants were excited to be at the beach with their friends, having some fun and getting a few tips from surfing’s experts. If you missed out
this year, make sure you check it out next year!” said Rip Curl Public Relations Coordinator Marine Cole.
This year Rip Curl and Ford Fiesta have partnered to offer people the chance to the win the “Ultimate Beach Trip” and hang out with ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore at the 2009 Rip Curl Pro Surf & Music Festival at Bells Beach.
