World Champs, Hollywood Stars, and Surf Industry VIPs, Enjoy a Hollywood- style event and view Taylor Steele’s new surf film
MALIBU, Calif., — The new surf film Campaign II premiered at Linda Tomson’s 22 acre Malibu mansion over the weekend at a party for more than 400 surf and celebrity guests. Jeep and Billabong sponsored the event which included World Surfing Champs Kelly Slater and Andy Irons and celebrities Daryl Hannah, Gisele Bundchen, and internationally renowned humanitarian Aaron Cohen. Professional surfers and Malibu notables too numerous to mention mixed with Dominic Monaghan from Lost, and cast members from Laguna Beach.
“It was a good mix, Hollywood, Malibu, surf film and party, said Andy Iron’s the current ASP world champ who was flown into the area via helicopter.
The showing was held outdoors on the giant lawn below the main house, using a giant theater-size screen, creating a surreal setting surrounded by the black silhouettes of the Malibu Hills. Fuel Television and TransWorld Surf covered the event from the media side, and DJ Mark Moreno kept the sound on target.
The movie, featuring the world’s best wave-riders was a fresh look at surfing’s most contemporary performances as well as a send-up of almost every Hollywood film that has ever involved the surfing genre. With comic performances by Kelly Slater, Shane Dorian, Benji Weatherly and Donavon Frankenreiter, combined with the red-hot surfing Campaign II seemed sure to be a film with repeat viewings from the intended audience.
With Premiere sponsors like Amped Mobile, Monster Energy Drink, and Panasonic, there was plenty of good food and drink, as the party went into full swing at the 21,000 square foot Spanish Colonial style home. Lit by searchlights and beams, with Jeep’s new Commander’s strategically set among the lavish landscape, the entire backdrop felt like a set for a Steven Spielberg Sci-Fi premiere taken over by surf-crazed inmates from planet of the waves.
Even normally low-key Taylor Steele was impressed: “When you have been premiering surf movies for over 10 years, it takes a lot to get me excited. This one blew me away. The boys went off!
