New York is like Disneyland for big kids. That is, unless you’re there with 3x World Champ, Andy Irons. Then, it feels like you have the key to the city, or at least in our case, the key to Yankee Stadium. Marketing Director for Billabong, Enich Harris, Andy and his girlfriend Lyndie, flew out to the Billabong Times Square store grand opening a day early. We all grabbed the orange D train up to the Bronx and Enich started making a couple of phone calls. Before we knew it, we were greeted by Jean Afterman, the Assistant General Manager of the New York Yankees.
Jean brought us up George Steinbrenner’s box and introduced us to Yankees General Manager, Brian Cashman. He had an awesome office with all the active baseball players names covering the walls. I told him to go easy on our Padres in the World Series this year.
All the big shots up in the office wanted to meet Andy (or least check out Lyndie). Andy was really cool to all the young Yankee fans, he even ended up giving one kid that sat behind us a collector Whitey Ford trophy that he got earlier that evening.
The next day, the Times Square Billabong Store Grand Opening rocked! It almost closed down the sidewalk on Broadway with autograph signings by Donavon, Andy, Bucky, Keala, Tara Dakides, Sanoe, and Bam Margera.
Thanks to Billabong,www.billabong.com the New York Yankees, and all the people who made the store opening such a good time. Next time you’re in the “Big Apple, make sure to stop by Times Square and check out the coolest new store in town!–Liam Ferguson
