Last Friday night was the release party/art show for Robb Havassy's Surf Story a 440 page book that documents the surf culture that was created by not just surfing, but by the paintings, photographs and writings that depict what it's like to be moved by a wave. Havassy's been been painting surfing for years, and if there's anyone who can tell the story of the evolution of surf art it's him.
Most of the artists featured in the book were in attendance with some of there current works, which were available for purchase, and also inspiration for the all the starved artists in attendance. The show had it all from paintings to photographs to actual surfboards. There were waves, surfers, women, beautiful scenery everything that makes up being a surfer was depicted in one way or another.
Havassy's always been a big supporter of the Surfrider Foundation, and has raised over $100,000 for the protectors of the seas over the years. All proceeds raised from raffles, beverage sales and what not went to the Foundation, and believe me there was some money raised, the kegs were kicked pretty quick.
