Jesse Hines Gets in the Van

By: Janos Palko

So there's a website out there called "Get in the Van" which, to my surprise, wasn't a chatroom for child molesters. It's actually a really rad site which treads the line somewhere between online surf magazine and photo blog. Some great articles and photo features, sprinkled with gems from all over the web. They just posted a great feature on Jesse Hines, an East Coast surfer who, by all accounts, is a classy dude in and out of the water. Photog Brian Nevins often travels with Jesse, and his photos are quite amazing. Here are 2 of the photos in the piece. Check out GET IN THE VAN and more on Jesse HERE

"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
