Chippasodes

By: Janos Palko

Chris "Chippa" Wilson is the tattooed Cinderella story out of Australia. Through Stab mag's Little Weeds contest Chippa's skate-inspired approach to waves saw the light of day for the first time. At the time, Chippa was exploring his career options, which consisted of flipping burgers or construction. Analog picked him up and began filming him, and now he's regarded as one of the most progressive aerial pilots on earth. Here is the latest Chippasode, where we follow Chippa and the Analog team through the baguettes, bordeaux, boobies, and barrels that France has to offer.

"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
