Rip Curl anounces 2011 Grom Search

By: Janos Palko

Our friends over at Rip Curl are bringing their popular Grom Search series back for 2011.

I remember when I was growing up, the older guys would duct tape groms to poles, give them corndogs (rolling one in the sand while wet) while they were trying to change, and many other hilariously abusive pranks.

But nooooo. Now that everyone is too afraid to get sued, groms get their own world tour.

Im not bitter or anything, but groms these days have it pretty sweet. Between facebook, sexting, and now this, I can now see why old guys seem so bitter.

Check out more info like stops and dates here.

"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.
