"Record" for Largest Wave Ever Ridden Trivializes Big-Wave Surfing

A return to old-school measuring techniques is in order

Consider two representations of two very big waves, below. The first is a photograph of Mike Parsons at Cortes Bank. The second is a video of Garrett McNamara near Nazare, Portugal. Now take out some measuring tape and make the distance of one foot between your hands. That's the amount, according to the Billabong XXL committee, that McNamara's wave is bigger than Parsons's wave.

the only problem with the tour now is the judging and scoring system its illigitimate they need to bring it into the future there are so many bad scores being pulled out. they need to leave the official scores after the heat is finished after analizing each of the best waves its sad that so many of the top surfers get let down by bad scoring because the scoring system is outdated yes score surfers for futuristic stuff and change the scoring but its not working the scores are illigitmate they need to analize the top 2 waves more carefully and honestly for everyone to see.they need to let the guys surf there heat give everyone an idea of who is winning in the heat but not come out with the scores so quickly its a joke.
